Making the most of PhotoShelter

->> Okay, I've got my PhotoShelter site up and running ( http://pa.photoshelter.com/user/kurtzjack ) and I've uploaded a couple of thousand photos. Now the question is: how do I take this to the next step to draw people in and start to "monetize" it?
thanks,
jack |

->> Are your images fully captioned and keyworded? Are you looking for event print sales, editorial licensing, art sales, etc....
I didn't look at the site - do you have your merchant account set up?
Guess what I'm asking is just where do you want to make money at/from in this business? Knowing that better will get you more replies. |

->> Good points. Everything is fully captioned, keyworded and publicly searchable. I have set up a merchant account. So I would like to start making some money off of it.
thanks,

->> Did you take good photos that people want?
It sounds snarky, but long are the days of "if you shoot it they will come".
You just can't put photos up and expect to make money.
I use photoshelter as what other people use to use as their "book" to show people.
I put up tightly edited galleries and send invites to the correct people at my target publications.
When people ask to see more of my work I send them to photoshelter. The only unsolicited sales I get are print sales from relatives/girlfriends of people I photographed who google their loved ones.
I also use it as a photo delivery service and charge a photoshelter fee. Clients love the fact that can go through my take and download it faster than shipping a DVD and easier then uploading/downloading via FTP. They can just download what they want.
That being said, the first sentence still rings true. |

->> Jack,
I am using Photoshelter in exactly the same way as Chris. I have tried once, and will try again, event photography in which I shoot most participants and tell them where they can find their photo, suitable for framing. Mostly I'm using it exactly the way Chris is.
Except maybe my main portfolio gallery isn't edited tightly enough. |
