| ->> I'm wanting to play more than anything. Has anyone tried the Canon underwater case for the Canon G9? |

| ->> Why don't you and report back to us your experiences with a G9 rigged for underwater? |

->> I have been wondering the same thing... once I get a G9 I plan on making the underwater housing one of the first accessories I get for it.
The users on Amazon.com who have used the WP-DC21 give it almost universal praise:

| ->> I bought the Canon G9 and the underwater housing and used the combo on my honeymoon while snorkeling, scuba diving and even just in the pool at home. It's a great little setup at a decent price. The only functions you can't use with the Canon housing is the rotating wheel on the back of the camera and the hot shoe. Obviously you can't use it as a remote, but it is a cool little toy/piece of equipment. It certainly isn't a waste of money. I'd buy another one again if I ever had to. |

| ->> Agree, very nice - economical combination. I was surprised that in video mode you could hear most everything - bubbles, conversation etc. Have been wondering if I could put a 580(or maybe a 285 given the cost difference) in a couple of heavy duty bags with a peanut slave and fire it from the G9 on camera strobe. Thought about doing some senior portraits in the pool but haven't tried yet. |

->> Thanks Guys.....
Scuba Classes start this week and then my first big dive will be in Hawaii. I just have a feeling it will lead to more serious underwater gear at some point..... |

->> Scuba, as is photography, is a bottomless pit of GAS (gear acquisition syndrome).
You'll love scuba, and I envy your open water diving in Hawaii. I've only snorkled there.
My first open water dive was in upstate New York, two weeks after the ice left the surface of the lake. Burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. |

->> I agree with all the above, and want to add a few details:
-you should spend the extra $20 for the weight set. It tends to be somewhat buoyant and the weights really help in composing the frame underwater.
-the 'trigger' button is right next to the power button, just be careful.
-for stills, try not shoot above ISO 200, it gets a little choppy
here are a few videos I snapped with mine while shooting a job in central America, enjoy..

and

though this is above water, I had the underwater housing. This particular shot was super-clamp'd to the raft.
and Broderick, if you want to see a few test shots, just send me an email and I'll pull out a few for you.. |

->> Agree with Ryan that additional weights are necessary to keep the housing at neutral buoyancy, but the Canon weights are very clunky in the way they stick out on the bottom of the housing and the screw that holds them comes loose easily.
A better solution is to use lead tape available at any golf shop for under $5.00. Peel & stick several pieces on the bottom of the housing, left & right sides for balance, and you are good to go. |
