->> On Rob Galbrath site, link below, has the information on this new camera. Yes sadly it was the whole moon "Digital Evolution" camera.
http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=7-9316-9607
It can do HD video, full frame and high ISO.
Personally sad that they didn't answer the challenge that Nikon is throwing down with the D3, D3x(from what I have read) and D700...
Makes you wonder... |

->> Kevin, this is the Mark II version of the thread. Please note the similar autofocus, but higher megapixel count.
Stay tuned for the "Canon EOS 5D Mark II" MarkIIN version of this thread. Followed by the "Canon EOS 7D" thread. And it's MkII variants.

->> Will Nikon wait until November to drop the price of the D700 to $2695.95, or will they come up with some sort of $300 rebate plan?
Will they reintroduce the 28mm/F-1.4 now that Canon has renewed their 24mm/F-1.4?
Inquiring minds, etc., etc....

->> From Geoff's article: "It's true that megapixels are often used as a benchmark to compare cameras on, but until the media change their reporting style, the pressure from the marketing department will remain on the engineers."
What do the media have to do with it? If Canon actually came out with a revolutionary camera that didn't have the most-ever megapixels, wouldn't it be reported just the same? Is it the media's job to educate the buying public about the importance of other features besides megapixels? Seems like something the marketing department at Canon should handle better. |

| ->> Adam, think about every photo journal's cover photo announcing the latest dSLR. Ninety-nine percent of the time, right after the name of the camera will appear something like "XYZ's 12MP Monster!!!" Just like used to be the case with PCs, when "Mhz" and then "Ghz" were the metric that people keyed off of when something new was announced, the dSLR market is still in that mind-set. Yes, the bodies of reviews will always talk about the great stuff under the hood, but "Great High ISO Performance", "Top Notch AF", etc. just aren't quite as "sexy" as being able to claim the MP title in the class. However, as MP increases reach the levels of diminishing returns, MP "sex appeal" will start to fade just like PCs and "Ghz appeal". |

->> Geoff,
That wasn't a Canon engineer quoted in that article. It was an employee of Canon who sounded like he had as much advance knowledge as any joe schmo reading DPReview. He even said he'd been hoping for two new cameras, which was a common rumor.
My guess is that it was a sales rep. I highly doubt he had any knowledge of the actual engineering involved or the thought process behind why they chose to go with the high megapixel count.
That said, from here on out, I can't see any reason to push for more megapixels. Fast AF and a couple more frames per second would be nice though. |

| ->> Aside from AUtofocus issues, the real issue for me is Manual focus. I love the 50/1.2L but when 50% of the images fall into the category of "sure looked sharp in the finder, and now i see the guys EARS are sharp.." that has way less to do with auto focus than it does simply delivering the sharpness to the same point on the sensor that it does in the finder. fix that, and ill be happy.. auto focus is for wusses |

->> I also agree, I often use manual focus when shooting sports as I used to be a film/FD Lens guy with Canon gear. When I shoot football I use manual focus and turn-off review on my company 20D bodies or my own 40D bodies. My shot percentage has gone up quite a bit. I did this when I owned a 1DMkII also. Turning-off review for the LCD helps to prevent the P2C (pause to chimp) factor.
Build quality hasn't been what it used to be it seems compared to the film days. I'm sure they're cranking out a lot more camera bodies and lenses but they gotta take care of QA. I mentioned this to the Canon USA president when I met him. I told him Canon's quality isn't consistent, especially when paying for 'L' glass. I probably should have hammered it home more but didn't want to ruin his day in Hawaii.
I was curious, does anyone know if the control placement for the 5DMkII match those of the original 5D? I know of several underwater photogs who were dreading the introduction of a new 5D as it would make their expensive housings obsolete. |

->> David - I agree with you too - but to be honest - I'm never sure if it's my eyes, movement, or the lens... maybe it is something else... never thought of it that way...
I do have a solution which helps me 100 percent of the time... I use live view and magnify the image to 10X - and it's dead on because you're seeing what the chip sees...
The 5D MKII can do the same.. I just posted something about a project I shot w/ a prototype of the camera on my blog. |

| ->> I second that David and Vincent. When I use the 85/1.2 with my 5D, I just can't always trust either myself or the viewfinder to manual focus. Vincent, I know you didn't shoot much on still mode, but were you able to decipher if that issue has been addressed? How about auto-focusing in low light at a wide aperture? Thanks. |

->> I strongly recommend for everyone who is interested in this new camera to check out the latest post on Vince's blog:
http://blog.vincentlaforet.com
In his blog Vince talks about a video he put together- an amazing short film- about 2 minutes in length- that he shot with the 5D Mark II. I have seen this video with my own eyes- probably about 20 times (I can still hear the music over and over in my head!) and I can say that the quality is amazing and it will blow you away.
This video should be available for the public to see next week. Trust me- when it goes public you will know. People will be talking about it on every photography-related website and blog in the world. |

I shot a still at 3200 ASA - my jaw dropped - I move on...knew that was in the bag... as soon as I get my hands on the camera again I 'll look at it... right now another lucky soul has that camera in hand... |

Any word on 6400+ Vincent?
In your opinion IQ of 5DMk II vs D3? |
