SSA Boot Camp In TWO DAYS!
Robert Hanashiro, Photographer
Los Angeles | CA | | Posted: 2:14 AM on 09.03.08
->> It is just a couple of days away from the start of the next COOLEST sports photography event of the year, the Sports Shooter Academy Boot Camp.

We are trying something a little new this time around and if it is as successful as I think it is, this may lead to a few more small workshops in the "Boot Camp" format.

The workshop is divided into two different topics, with sports photography the concentration on Friday (remote classes and THREE NCAA Division I soccer games!) ... Saturday participants will have the opportunity to do 4 different portrait shoots with athletes as subjects.

Matt Brown has outdone himself in arranging for a great day of college soccer and getting about a dozen athletes for the portrait sessions.

SI's Roberto Beck is hard at work putting together his kick-off presentation (hint, hint: he just returned from covering the Beijing Summer Olympics --- this ought to be a heck of a great show!!!)

Other faculty members Dave Honl, Michael Goulding, Lucas Gilman and I, along with our staff Jordan Murph, Crystal Chatham and Susanica Tam are excited about the great possibilities this weekend's program holds...we just can't wait to get started!!!

We have 34 people registered for the Boot Camp and I hope they are ready for the wonderful learning, inspiration, great photography and FUN awaits them here in So Cal --- plus the weather has been absolutely GEORGOUS this week!

Special thanks to our primary sponsor Nikon (and Ronal Taniwaki).

Thanks to the following companies and individuals for their loyal support of my Sports Shooter educational programs:
Think Tank Photo and Doug Murdoch
Samy's Camera and Louis Feldman
Dyna-Lite and Jim Morton

Keeps your eyes on SportsShooter.com for news from the Boot Camp when we select the best photographs from the workshop.

Mahalo!

Boot Camp '08 is going to be fantastic. It's a short and sweet format but features the same intense and hands-on format the Academy is known for.

See you all in the OC, -C.

A GREAT first day of the Boot Camp!!!

Three action-filled college soccer games...and some really solid photographs made by the 30 participants.

And AWESOME Day Two of the Boot Camp!!!

Four 90-minute lighting sessions involving 10 Cal State Fullerton athletes, 32 Boot Camp participants and 8 faculty and assistants.

Had an early morning wake up call Sunday to have breakfast at Knowlwood (for the homemade corn beef hash with eggs!!!) and Matt Brown and I were off to cover the San Diego Chargers - Carolina Panthers game at Qualcomm.

I just got home ... and I am still excited about the fun and learning at the Boot Camp!

The SSA has had people come from Japan and England to spend the week with some of the best people you could ever meet and learn from. I think it is a great place to come and learn about sports photography
