->> Patrick- Once again we point to the vast Sports Shooter archives and find this link containing the earliest PUBLISHED report of "Chimping" thanks to Bob Deutsch of USA Today. The following article was published in issue #12 on September 27, 1999:

->> Being new to the www.sportsshooter.com site (just less then a year I have been floating around this site) I haven't seen previous articles and never knew why we called it Chimping. I do have one question, did Bob invent the word "chimping"

Thanks again for solving another mistery.

->> I always like to call looking at the LCD screen "posting" for the conotations of post processing, posting it up on the screen and the postage stamp size of the image. Seems to fit better.

So I may ask people if they 'post' their images after they shot them.

After the somewhat controvery of photographer's used to being being call 'photo dogs' in an NPPA magazine article don't you think being called a 'chimp' would dredge up the same responses?

Gee, just when I make the above statement I have to hit a button called "Post Comments" to leave this message. And I got to preview my message! Maybe 'posting' should be the term for the LCD thing too.

->> Haven't you seen it happen? Photographers looking at their images - and then pointing at the little screen (and in some cases tapping it as if sending morse code) while making excited monkey-sounds?

"OOoh ooo ooooh."

or

"Haaaaa he he haaaaaaa!"

or

"Woo woo hooo hoo hoo woo!"

or

"Whoo whooo Haaa HAAA!"

Has anyone noticed that bananas are showing up more and more in the media lunches?

->> They call it chimping because Bob Deutsch, who wrote one of the first aritcles on it, looks like a chimp. :-) Sorry, big guy, I couldn't resist. See you in Anaheim.
