->> I was curious if anyone knows why there was no live showing of the opening ceremony on television?
I could only catch live clips from BBC news. That was it!
Even know, I don't seem to be able to find any channels on TV that is replaying it. |

Thanks for the heads up! |

| ->> There's an embargo on it from NBC prohibiting the airing of any Olympic video during the games. They don't dump $bajillions into it to get beaten to the punch by another network. |

->> I hate NBC, just shows what money can do. . Fortunatly, living so close to Canada in the Detroit area, I was able to watch it Llive on CBC. They are even showing live performances throughout the morning. What is even mrs appauling for the atheletes is the fact that since NBC wants to show the swimming finals live, they have moved the finals to the morning in Beijing, which, according to an article by former Olympic gold medalist Janet Evans, contradicts their training schedule, which has their peak energy levels trained for the evening.
OT- A family member of an American coach was killed in Beijing at a tourist attraction. Let's hope this is an isolated incident. |

->> I like the non-live NBC telecast. China is 12 hours ahead of New York and 15 hours ahead of Los Angeles. That means if it were live here, a 7:00pm USA basketball game in China is live here at 4:00am....... The 5:00pm "Fastest Race Ever" between Gay and Bolt is a 2:00am event. I'm not getting up at 4:00am or 2:00am to watch Kobe, Phelps, Gay, or any other Olympic athlete.
.......The Opening Ceremony was amazing. I didn't care that it happened 15 hours before. Good ole' NBC made sure I did not see any highlights or hear anything that happened so I could watch it and enjoy it at my normal TV viewing time.
Jeff
PS All who are there, enjoy the games and be safe. I'm sure you will have tons of stories when you return. |

->> I agree with Jeff, I worked the graveyard shift for too long to go back to it just to watch some sports.
Having a high definition flat screen television positioned eight feet away from the eight foot couch, eight dimmed lights, the volume at eight decibels, eight steps away from an eight foot high refrigerator with beer chilled at eight degrees celcius to watch the opening ceremonies of the olympic games at Bejing on 08-08-08, priceless.
It was the perfect setting for a spectacular opening. They did an outstanding job, very impressive.
All the SS.COM members who are there, be safe and enjoy the time of your life in Bejing. |

| ->> Can't get to the BBC player in the US. I know NBC has a video player, but I am having trouble finding a full version of the opening ceremony online. I missed it last night, has anyone found a full version? The replay on NBC seems to be cut highlights and I can't get it to go full screen. There won't be a re-run on tv will there? |

->> I'm not sure if there will be a re-run. The show was very long. I fell into a full sleep twice from eating gobs of chinese food and still saw everything I wanted to see and some other amazing stuff.
The parade of countries was cool but I really only saw the US, Spain, and China and heard that part was over an hour long. The lighting of the torch was very cool but that guy must be extremely tired from holding that thing up and how is it that he did not drop that flaming torch down onto the people?
The real treat was the 2,008 performers in each act. Thats 2,008 different performers everytime they did something new and all syncronized. That must have looked good at Dirk's house all syncronized and everything on the 8's.

->> Managed to record the opening ceremony on DVR, fast forward was a great function to have through the commercials. And well, part of the countries walking into the stadium.
For now, NBC has a pretty decent online streaming functions that is worth looking into. |

->> I saw some rapidshare links that supposedly had the opening ceremony and torch/fireworks..without commercials in 720p quality..and also the torch/fireworks in 1080p from the BBC..
... it was an excellent production...
I couldn't believe it when NBC went to a commercial break just as the fireworks started going off. How often do you get to see such a huge fireworks show in HD from Beijing?
NBC..Nothing But Commercials. |

Radio-Canada, the French-Canadian state TV network, went to commercial break... Just as Canada arrived into the stadium!!! |
