->> Thanks for the chuckles guys and gals. Isn't the Beijing McDonalds serving Snake your way?
Darr – "I actually have high hopes for the efficiency of the games this time around. I like the idea of a totalitarian government as the host. Hopefully they can make the buses run on time."
Hitler did this in the 1936 Summer Olympics, too.
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
I predict fabulous photographs from all our SportsShooter who are sleep deprived, starving due to their power bars being removed my security, and suffering asthma attacks running to catch the on time bus.
What are the predictions of SportsShooters who are NOT in China? |

| ->> "Bird's Nest" Stadium will collapse during the opening ceremony. It will be caused by upwards of 50,000 Buddist monks (hidden strategically around Bejing) doing that throat singing thing they do at the resonant pitch of the stadium's girders. The recent earthquake in China was just a test run. |

->> This may be the first time in history that a Sports Shooter member has received an "Inappropriate" for quoting another Sports Shooter member's statement in a story written by Sports Shooter staff and posted as the "featured item" on the Sports Shooter website.
That has GOT to be some kind of a record! |

->> Michael
I've always been a record setter!
Guess I shouldn't have predicted fabulous photos.
At least someone didn't hit Huh? or Off Topic! That would make me upset – NOT.
So let's hear more predictions from those who are not there. Will records fall? |

->> I predict a great market for used camera gear after all of the stuff is confiscated from photographers entering and leaving the country.
I predict mass nausea on Sports Shooter from everyone getting sick of hearing all of the bug-eating stories from the people attending the games.
...and finally...
I predict, based on the list of shooters attending and knowing what they are capable of, that I will tear up at least once while looking at one of their photos from the games.
Thanks to all for making the trek. |

I also predict that there will be a new world record in the Womens 800 meter run. |

->> I predict that someone is going to lose a lens cap...
I also predict that Miralle, having been denied underwater shooting access, will come up with some innovative angle/set-up and place first in the clip contest with a sports feature of Phelps. ;) |

->> I predict some else will rip off my "Napping Giant" idea, and do it a lot better! Or at least be able to sell it.
Other than that, I'd bet that the sun will only be visible in Beijing for fewer than three days, and that foreign visitors will long for the relative cleanliness of Mexico City once they start choking on Beijing air.
The most solid prediction: All foreigners walking down Wangfujing will be approached by a kind, young, English-speaking "art student"... |

At best he's a 12hr & 24min of flight away from the nearest Chilis. |

. . . there will be fabulous photos from sportsshooter members and some of the best blogs ever.
. . . Michael Phelps will win 8 gold
. . . I am going to have to get started clearing my DVR to have enough room to record all I want to see.
. . . I'm not the only one excited about the Olympics.
And, I HOPE . . .
. . . this will be a peaceful Olympics and everyone will return home safe.

->> I predict -
there will be at least one athlete kicked out for performance enhancing drugs
there will be at least 1 olympic thread dedicated to each of the following topics:
-citizen journalist / guy with camera
-journalism business
-photoshopping
I also predict that I'll sleep through most of the competition.
I also predict, I'll ask more than once "isn't the olympics supposed to be a competition between non-professionals?" and say "this looks like 2 teams from the NBA" |

->> I predict that I will spend more time reading Olympic blogs by SS members ( http://vincentlaforet.wordpress.com/ , http://www.postcrescent.com/ic/blogs/sidelines/index.shtml , http://markjrebilas.com/blog/ , to name a few) than I will actually watching the Games.
I predict many great images.
I predict higher US television ratings for NFL preseason games than for the Olympics.
Finally, I predict much jealousy and envy from myself, and I gotta figure out a way to shoot one of these things one of these years. (OK, so that was less of a prediction for THIS Olympiad as it was for future ones...)
Have fun and be safe over there guys and gals!

2. A flag will mysteriously appear to drape shoulders of the winner of all track and field winners.
3.The algae bloom will overtake the rowers enroute to the finish line, except for the china lane. |

->> Walter,
I've actually found the buses to be pretty efficient, especially compared to Athens 4 years ago and all the mess I've heard from numerous folks about Atlanta.
Most times when you go to the bus stop a bus is waiting and leaves right on time, or if the bus gets full they send it off and pull up another one to take over the regularly-scheduled departure. I've taken buses pretty much all hours of the day, from leaving the media village at 8 a.m. to leaving the media center departure lot at 4 a.m.
I've only had to wait 3 times for a bus to show, and in each of those cases it pulled up and left on the scheduled time, I just had to stand in the sun a few minutes for it to get there.
I don't doubt David that his bus didn't show at that hour of the night, but also, where he is standing no bus will ever arrive. He's standing near the drop-off area, the bus pick-up depot is a couple hundred yards across the street.
But there is one thing I will agree with David on in that picture. The less said about the shorts, the better off we all are. |

->> I'm terrible at predictions. I'm watching USA Softball right now, though, and I gotta tell you, they're pretty good. I'm gonna get crazy and predict that they medal this time.
Aside from predictions, though, am I the only one who thinks perhaps the Chinese, from a marketing standpoint, should have named their national stadium something other than the "Bird's Nest"? I mean, you know, with the whole Avian Flu thing?
(Just trying to fade some of the "Inappropriate" heat for you Walter) |

->> Wow, so close!
I predicted that at least 50% of the clip contest winner this month would be shot in Beijing. Seven of the 13 winning photos were shot at the Olympics.
I also predicted that a new world record would be set in the Women's 800 meter run. Unfortunately all that was set was a World Junior Record.
Congrats to all of the clip contest winners this month. Great shots! |

Congrats to all the winners. |
