Nikon D3, Raw & J-Peg issue
Allen Hubbard, Photographer

->> I just completed a shoot where I set the camera menu to use slot 1 for Raw, slot 2 for J-peg and inserted cards in both slots.
When I got back to upload the images I found that both cards have j-pegs and I have no raw images.
I went back to the menu and looked and it still says slot 1 - raw. slot 2 - jpeg.
Any idea why? I did the first D3 firmware update a few weeks ago but have not done the newest one yet if that may be an issue.
Another thought, I Did Not format the cards in camera before shooting. Is that maybe it?
Thanks in advance for any help.

->> Sounds like you designated the slots correctly - but is it possible that you had the camera set to capture jpg only - not raw + jpg?

->> In addition to setting the Shooting Menu Slot 2 option to RAW Slot 1 - JPEG Slot 2, you also have to make sure the Image Quality setting has RAW / Fine JPG set (hold down the QUAL button on the back and advance through the options with the rear wheel). No doubt you had the Shooting Menu set but still had the QUAL set to JPEG JPEG.

I have not gone back in shop to check this but I am pretty sure you both hit the nail on the head.
I guess I thought it would do that itself once I designated the slots and put cards in both.
Thanks for the quick answers, I will confirm tomorrow.
Allen
