Woohoo! I just inked a contract to author a book!

->> Well this morning wasn't very eventful , but this afternoon was spent on finishing up negotiations to author a book for an international publishing firm.
After a few months of discussions with an international publishing firm I just ironed out the final details of my contract to author a book for traveling photographers!
From here I figure a few more thousand miles stuck in plane seats finishing up my research, then off to crank out 135 pages of text to fill the "The Traveling Photographer's Essential Pocket Guide"
Woo Hoo! |

Begs the question though -- will any airlines still be flying after publication? :-) |

Hopefully they let you use your own photo for the cover. |

I'm assuming you HAD to go with the international firm in order to stick to your die-hard insistence on using the spelling COLOUR, LABOUR, FLAVOUR, PARLOUR and the like, right? Congratulations, man. You've got a good thing going.

->> Jon,
....all I need to do now is learn to write in German (I'm still working on English, Grouch Cantor can attest to that) and I'm all set :0)
(actually the 'u' comes from a 9th grade English teacher from Canada during my year in boarding school that beat 'u' into my head)
I hope to be able to shoot my on cover. It would make sense I think to let me shoot my own cover. No way in hell am I writing it out in long hand. I am typing it all into my Blackberry and e-mailing it to myself.
Airlines for Dummies, no I think the US Airways CEO has that one all locked up |

Once again I am "off topic" in the lead post! It takes real talent to be off topic when starting the topic. |

Just because some anonymous anal-retentive members don't travel doesn't mean that you're off-topic.
Congratulations!

I can now afford a one-way seat on WestJet anywhere they fly in Manitoba!
What was that about a private jet?
.........Mark, you'd be proud. I even negotiated and had a lawyer look at the contract. I think pulled out my crayons and wrote "X".....just like you always said I should :0) |

->> Mr. Frischling,
With all do respect I am a very new SS member and very new to the business. In your previous post you expressed confusion around the "Off Topic" feedback that you received in the lead post of this thread; specifically in regard to how a lead post could be interpreted as off topic.
I think I see where with the members who flagged your lead post as "Off Topic" are coming from. I will use the message board header as a guideline for the scope of the message board. The header includes the following sentence.
"This message board system is for members to share ideas about issues of importance within our community"
I agree that this topic is of importance to you and people who follow your blog, but I am struggling to make a connection with this topic and the "importance within our community." It is quite an accomplishment to be contracted to write a book and it will be a monumental day for you when the book hits bookstores across the country.
Self-promotion is a powerful tool and is paramount to personal success in today's business community. There is a time and a place for this type of promotion. I think that the members who flagged your post as "Off Topic" were trying to make the point that they don't believe that this is the right place for this type of promotion.
SportsShooter.com provides a "Bookshelf" area specifically for books that are of interest to the community. I will keep my eye out in the bookshelf area of the site for your upcoming published work.
Respectfully.

I just marked you "off topic" as I feel this form of feedback has devolved into a modern day version of a Three Stooges finger in the eye.
Congrats. |

->> From the "Definitions" provided by our esteemed site managers:
Off topic
This should only be used when posts have absolutely nothing at all to do with the stated subject matter or theme of the thread. Do not use this to disagree with the fact that the subject matter exists in the first place.
As such, by definition the lead post CANNOT be off-topic.
Besides, given the number of members here who obviously must travel for their work, this is surely of interest to more than just those who follow his blog----myself for one. |

->> Steve
You need to write a book for SportsShooters about marking forum threads.
Doesn't have to be a thick book. Simply informative, with a funny streak that makes one inappropriately laugh at the off topic nature of how we communicate.
But then I like to go down that slippery slope of defining the true meaning of 'Huh?'.
Grin.
Now back to arguing about how many angels can dance on the head of a Photoshopped news image shot at 10 frames per second using a tilt/shift lens baby. |

On the other hand, it is also a case of a PHOTOGRAPHER trying to ruin the WRITING industry :)
Congratulations, Stephen. |

I'm a photographer, why would I let something as minor as grammar and spelling get in the way of me writing a book! |

I think that will not be a problem....you'll hear about on probably 700 different message boards/blogs/listserves/etc. and he will personally fly to your airport to hand deliver it before jumping the next flight :) |
