->> I have been asked to give some photography guidance to a high school yearbook staff.
Does anyone know any good websites with basic photo information for beginning photographers? There are so many websites available; they could spend the entire year searching for a good site.
Anything specifically geared towards yearbook photography? Thanks. |

| ->> It doesn't deal much with yearbooks, but the information on Strobist.com is invaluable. |

This is a great site for beginners in understanding f stops, shutter speed, ISO/film speed. However don't just show them the site and let them experiment. Methodically walk them through various settings (maybe with one computer and projector). If you just let them play with it on their own, they won't put much thought into it (I taught HS for 8 years). After demonstrating the various settings combinations, have them each on a computer and say "Let's set the shutter speed at 1/60, f5.6 and before you hit the shutter button, let's predict if the exposure will be good, underexposed, or overexposed? Will the background be blurred out at 5.6, or will be more in focus than our last shot?" "Ok, now let's take the picture. Was our prediction accurate? What are our options to make the exposure better?" "What will happen if we change to f4 instead of f5.6?" etc, etc, etc....
If you want them to explore the Internet for resources, narrow down the sites they can look at to 6 or less. Don't turn them loose on the Internet, they'll get lost quickly and learn nothing. Give them specific questions they need to answer or have specific objectives they need to complete.
Strobist is an unbelievable resource, but only for those that have a clear understanding of basic camera operations and exposure.
Good luck. |

->> Thanks for the help, especially the photonhead site Landon. Just spending a few minutes on it, I think that has what I am looking to use with new photographers. I will look through it more later before showing it to them.
I have spent a lot of time on Strobist and it does have great information. I believe most of it would be over their heads right now, but maybe not.
Thanks,
Bob |

They have a really good course in introductory photojournalism. Quick to use and pretty engaging. The site is an offshoot of the Newseum, I believe. |
