Shooting video of fireworks displays, advice tis, etc.

->> Thought I'd start the seemingly annual "how to shoot fireworks thread" with a bit of a twist.
I'm planning on shooting the display with stills and video for the website. The one problem is that I have no idea how to do it. The video that is. My experience and education in this regard is almost nil. I've done two VERY BAD videos so far and can barley operate the camera competently.

I'll be using a Canon HV-20 on a tripod. The camera has a fireworks mode but I can't see using this and respecting myself in the morning. I'll be using the built in mic (I know , I know) since I haven't convinced the publisher that we need a shotgun yet.

If anyone has any experience with this or has any this it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

->> I have no idea what "fireworks mode" in a video camera would do... Back in the day, I shot fireworks a few times with a Sony BVW-300 Betacam camcorder, and I didn't really do anything special (manual exposure and focus, of course). Make sure you're wide enough to get the whole thing, but that's not really any different than shooting stills.

->> You'll have to adjust the exposure manually for the fireworks. Leaving it on auto will blow out the fireworks and look like a bad vacation video from Disney World. Beyond that... just learn how to change the exposure and try and go from there. Slow zooms, slow pans, etc. Fast motion of fireworks on a video camera looks very bad.

As for the stills, ISO 100. f/11-f/16ish. Tripod. Shutter release. Long Exposure NR turned off. And good composition.

Good luck.

Of course, YMMV.
