->> How do you all drive people to your personal blog and get them to interact with it? I have one to provide my "viewing audience" (approx. 8 people) more regular photos than my website can provide. I want people to see what I am doing. How do you market your blog? How do you get people to subscribe?

->> I don't.
I don't worry about getting people to see it. I use it as a cathartic release in that the images that I really like are seen somewhere. Even if its just by me and my friends.
I'm not driving to market my blog beyond word of mouth and just taking good pictures.
But it's more of a "just-for-me" thing than anything else. Keeps me from yelling across the newsroom sometimes. |

->> I don't really market my blog either. Most of my traffic consists of blog friends who I link to, or visitors directed to me via google or another search engine. You get a lot of traffic from searches on high school prep athletes.
I occasionally tell someone I photograph that I have a blog, and I may post their picture to it.
But for the most part I do it because a) I hate registration issues in the paper, b) the editors didn't like the artistic version of a news photo and ran with the boring man-doing-something or player-hitting-ball image instead.
Plus, let's be honest here, it feeds the ego.

->> I tend to use my blog to show what I've been working on and how far I've come. That's assuming I move forward at all. More for me personally than anything else.
But I will use it as a gallery for potential clients to show my work and what kind of person I am.

->> What a nice idea...
I'm with David, Bryon and Jim, for me it allows me to write and give my family back home a way to see where I am and what I'm doing...I also like the regimen and the therapeutic effects maintaining a journal has on me.

I'm with David (Manning) here - my blog is neither a revenue generator nor a portfolio. It's just a way for me to publically display my current work without any cost, and gives me motivation to keep shooting and taking on projects. It's hard for me to self-motivate without an assignment or an audience, and this blog will provide at least an illusion of both. |

As I asked on a previous thread, how successful have your blogs been as a marketing tool? Is it really useful, or has it become just the thing to do? |
