Lost lens hood at Fenway
Brian Jenkins, Photographer

->> This is probably a long shot, but I left my lens hood to my 300mm f2.8 at Fenway Park last night (June 10) and was wondering if anyone who was there found it. Like an idiot I put it down so I wouldn't hit the lady sitting in front of me in the back of the head then got up to find a different angle. I checked with lost and found already but no one turned it in. I can't believe how much those are to replace.

->> Sorry to hear about that. It wouldn't be the first time someone has lost an item at Fenway. Last year I lost a CF wallet containing 32 gigs of memory. I checked with lost and found and talked with as many photogs as I could remember that were shooting that night. The wallet and contents were never found/or returned.

On the other side, during the playoffs 2 years ago, an SI photog left his 300/2.8 in one of the photo wells. I helped reunite it with the proper owner. There are good people out there and there are bad people.

You may want to contact the Sox photogs as well. I don't know who was shooting that night.

Good luck with recovering it,
-sM

->> Sorry about your hood Brian. Those are pricey to replace.

We have all lost items from time to time. I left my wallet in a restaurant once and because I had a business card with my phone # on it, they called to let me know someone turned it in!

Given the opportunity, most people will do the right thing. The problem is most of us don't give people that opportunity because we don't put our names and cell phone #s on our stuff. I once had a pilot grab my PowerBook off the X-Ray belt because he thought it was his and they looked EXACTLY the same! I had a sticker on the bottom with my name and cell phone # on it, so it was easy to see that it was mine.

I write my name and cell phone # on my CF cards as well along with "Reward for return".
