Honolulu Star-Bulletin to shut down next month

->> I saw the job posting for a photographer at the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and found this article in the New York Times:
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E03EED9153CF934A2575AC0A96F...
In a nutshell the NYT is saying that the Honolulu Star-Bulletin will be shutting down in the near future due to declining circulation. It's a little more involved than declining circulation, but thought this info might be important to some folks out there. |

->> Rodrigo,
I saw the NPPA listing too. There is also one on the classified section of this site.

I was going to send my portfolio there way tomorrow. Maybe I'll save the two dollars in postage. There are not many two newspaper towns these days. |

->> SEO at its finest!
I'm always finding antique archived articles from the NYTimes when I'm searching for something relevant to um, say, the past 5 years.
The thing that bothers me is how the "originally published" cutline is small and greyed back and lower on the page, while "TODAY'S DATE VIA SEARCH ENGINE INPUT" makes it appear that this info is hot off the virtual presses and ultra-fresh content.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Either that of the Star-Bulletin is in serious mega-ultra-super-duper-quadruple-overtime or something... |
| ->> My bad, I sent an email to the person listing the job opening trying to confirm this story and it got returned to me. I looked at the date at the top of the story and saw today's date and wanted to warn potential job applicants. I did not notice the small grayed date from 1999. Thanks for the info. |
| ->> Dave Amorde: technically you should use "better" instead of "best" since your situation is comparative--not superlative. ;) |
->> Just to reiterate, THE HONOLULU STAR-BULLETIN IS NOT SHUTTING DOWN. If so, I think our staff would know first, especially before the NYT, being that we WORK HERE. Mr. Miho is right, please do the research FIRST before igniting a rumor flame. This is especially hurtful because we are indeed looking for a candidate to fill a position, and this thread and its title are not helping us in any way. For those of you still interested in the position, the classified posting says no emails, no calls, but you are welcome to send me an email and I'd be glad to give you a bit more information. Other wise, go ahead and save your two dollars in postage.
->> Dave,
I'm always a stickler for grammar. Thanks for the correction. While we have the red pen out, I'm sure you meant to use 'plan' and not 'planned.'
I am not sure why you would employ the past tense in this instance. |
Jason, you wrote:
Keep the red pencil out. It should be "their" way (possessive case) not "there way". |
