| ->> Its coming to a detroit soon who is going to go? Anyone from Columbus that would want to carpool and save on gas? This looks really freaking sweet to shoot i cant wait! However i have no idea what San Diego was like, How far away are they from the land? I know we cant get boat access. What lens would work 300, 400, 600? |

->> Jordan,
The Red Bull races are a blast. Lots of great photo ops.
I'd say any one of those lense lengths will do. Sometimes it's nice to shoot a little loose so you get the smoke trail and city skyline in back, and sometimes it's nice to get in tight, maybe get the pilot in there. There are an infinite number of cool spots to shoot from so maybe scope some out beforehand.
Have a ball! |

->> I will not have credentials, but most likely I will be there on Sunday, as I have an all day Track and Field shoot on Saturday!!
If I go, I plan on going over to Windsor, as you will be able to get the Detroit skyline in the background!!!
Anyone want to go with???

->> I have credentials and might be there, not sure on the whole weekend plan yet. If I go I will be shooting from the Detroit side and am planning on checking out the Cobo Center roof for a shooting spot. I have a couple other ideas as well.
Hey Sandy, did they have a good media area set up for transmitting?

| ->> I'll be there both days, Windsor side. The sunlight will be (mostly) at my back and hopefully the Detroit skyline will line up well behind the shots. Should be an awsome event! |

->> Bryan,
Probably easiest to just duck into a Starbucks or other outlet with wireless since you'll be downtown. Be sure to keep the images clean. I've seen a lot of shots that are real busy with the skyline in the background. Also, be original. this thing has been shot umpteen million times by lots of great, and not so great photographers. |

Detroit is very limited with its coffee selection - especially when you get outside of the downtown area. To be honest, I would not go far outside of the downtown area.
For those traveling to Detroit this weekend from the South along I-75 - please be advised that the Freeway is CLOSED at I-96. If you need directions, feel free to contact me through my member page!! |

Ya in the city not much coffee but I live in the burbs so no problem. I know where Starbucks is but a better local coffee shop near Cobo Center. I agree on the being original. I have seen both really good and really bad photos from it and lots of them! Still not sure if I'm shooting but its looking like I will as I'm sure the staffers will be thin with the Red Wings in Pittsburgh. |

->> Finding a unique shot is one of the toughest things about shooting airshows since everyone pretty much has the same vantage point. The Windsor side, Zone 6 will probably have the best sun line (if it even comes out this weekend, fingers crossed) so that's where I'll be perched. Has anyone here shoot the races from one of those pylon barges? Now those are some interesting shots!
Btw--Andrew, thanks for the driving tip. Hopefully that will be one less travel headache to worry about! |

->> And those are the only two ways to cross, huh? Great...
If the detour's not too crazy I think we still may try for the bridge. |

->> Mariano,
The bridge may be the way to go early in the morning, as downtown may be jammed up with people. If coming from the south (I-75), getting to the bridge is pretty easy. You will just follow the service drive. Remember to bring you birth certificate, or passport if you have one!!!!
