I Web Sabotage

| ->> After months of trying to sort it out, the mac tech people told me flat out too big a site and iweb will not ftp to another company intact. My site forever was missing photos albums since I upgraded to iweb 2 . Yes I did the current upgrades and mac after months of frustration finally admitted to me that it can only go to .mac and be correct. So I bought a .mac account and mirror it to my domain name. But it just doesn't seem right. |

| ->> David, does the problem seem to be the number of pages being too many or the total size in MB of the combined pages that is causing the problem? I assume this means that when you "Publish to a Folder" not all the pages show up? |

| ->> What mac tech support told me was iweb has issues being sent up by ftp. I can publish t a folder fine, and make a test sitefine. I have tried 3 different ftp clients cyberduck, transmit and fetch. I also used my web hosts ftp direct from bluehost my web host. |

| ->> So does the FTP client time-out or does it complete successfully but not all the files have actually made it to your host? |

| ->> No FTP client wold get all the files up to my host. Bluehost ftp would and it still would not work, as I said the mac tech people admitted to me that there are known issues preventing sending the site to work to anyone but .mac. David http://www.davidseelig.com |

->> David,
I have a personal website for family photos and such that I made with iWeb and it is rather large. I save it to my hard drive and then use Transmit to ftp up to the server and haven’t had any problems. Make sure you use the publish to folder feature and then move those files via ftp and it should go smooth. Your problem might the server it is being sent to, if it times out before all the files are sent then the pages won’t show up or will be empty, you could try sending fewer pages at a time until it is complete. |

| ->> I'll be honest, I don't see how this could be iWeb's problem. If it works fine when "published to a folder" it seems to be an FTP problem. I second Chad's suggestion of sending your site in smaller chunks and seeing if it works that way. |

| ->> I have a somewhat large Iweb site too. I occasionally have problems of the server timing out on me when uploading. When this happens I do what Chad suggested and just upload about a third of my pages at a time until completely uploaded. I haven't had a problem since. I currently use godaddy. http://www.joelphilippsen.com |

| ->> Why do people have trouble with apple telling me iweb has problems with large sites. I too saved it to my hardrive and tried 3 different ftp s and a 4th in my webserver. Apple told me flat out there are issues there. I have gotten all my pages up to the website, and checked to see all my photos there, but it still will not work. Again apple said there are issues. |

->> How big is it?
Could a different protocol work better? Maybe uploading it in stages? |

->> David, it isn't that we don't believe that Apple told you that, I think it is just that several of us have rather large iWeb sites that transfer via FTP just fine. I can't think of a reason that the site would work just fine when viewed locally when "Published to a Folder" but not once you upload it. There is nothing in the HTML that would change and make it not work so I think most of us are still suspecting a transfer problem.
It also seems a little fishy to me that the support person's solution was for you to give Apple another $99 a year for it to work. |
