->> I was about to start a new one of these threads myself, but...Circuit City Outlet has some great deals on PNY UDMA cards: $100 for 8GB, $60 for 4GB, and $35 for 2GB. These are among the fastest cards out there. http://tinyurl.com/2pkoss

->> Hey Chuck, did you type that little bit on the bottom of your message? The part that says "DISCLAIMER: Good SportsShooter.com members will patronize our sponsors..."
I hope to hell you wrote that, otherwise it would be really crappy of Sportsshooter to inject that into your message. |

| ->> SS.com sponsor Roberts Imaging had a killer deal on 16 GB SanDisk Ultra III cards that just expired as I write this. I got 3 of them for a total of 48 GB of storage for just over $150 after rebate. Then again, I only knew about this special since I'm a repeat customer of theirs and got an email advertising it. Can't beat that. |

->> John - I wrote that myself, hoping it would prevent any number of members from feeling compelled to point it out as they do any time anyone posts a suggestion that anyone buy anything that isn't what everyone else uses or isn't bought from a sponsor. :)
DISCLAIMER: I think sponsors are great, I buy from them when it suits my purposes! |

->> I saw this deal alert on the Chuck Steenburgh's site about the PNY Optima Pro at CircuitCity.com.
http://sportsphotoguy.com/deal-alert-pny-optima-pro-udma-cf-cards/
Chuck gives these cards a positive review on his site, so I decided to give one a try. They were out of the 4gb, so I got the 2gb card ($34.99 with free shipping), and so far I'm impressed. I haven't done extensive shooting with it yet, but it can handle longer 8fps bursts than my Transcend 233x, and the preview images pop instantaneously in the LCD screen, whereas my best Transcend card has a slight lag to it.
The deal is still going on, and still shows the 4GB card out of stock. Don't know how long it will be going on, but so far it looks like a great deal on a near elite level card.
Also, a note on what card NOT to buy if you are a D300 owner. The Ridata "Lightning" 233x card I got at Newegg.com, for $30 after shipping, seemed decent for the price, until I started doing some shooting with the grip at 8FPS. Speed was holding up OK, but I started getting the funky "CHA" card error and it would shut down. Restarting it was only a temporary fix, and the problem would come back pretty quick. It would seem the card has compatibility issues with the D300. So now it's in my cheap MP3 player storing music, so it still wasn't a waste. |

->> Doug,
Interesting to note your Ritek experience. Oddly enough, Ritek and Lexar cards (albeit much older ones) are the only ones I've ever had hardware problems with. In my own experience, the Ritek 233 is slow as molasses in the D300 (120-150x cards are actually faster) but I haven't had any errors with it.

->> Sandisk has some good rebates on various cards through June that is good at several popular stores, including B&H, Ritz, Buydig and Adorama, which had the best deal on the 4GB Extreme III 30mbps. Just ordered a 4GB for $57 before a $20 rebate Visa gift card. That's a heck of a deal!
The Sandisk Ultra II is a good reliable card, but very slow with a D300.
I see there is a new Transcend 300X card out on Newegg.com. I've always had good luck with Transcend cards and I'm tempted to try one out soon. |

| ->> I have been using the Calumet ProSpec 4Gb and 8 Gb cards. So far so good. Not as cheap as some of the deal above but I seem to trust them now. I still try to use Lexar as much as possible but only when there is a rebate available. Anyone ever had problems with the Calumet cards? |

->> Because you asked Richard, I will say that yes I have had a problem with the Calumet Pro Spec cards.
I've got a 2 gb that is splitting apart at the seams. Its sitting waiting for me to send it back to them to be replaced. The memory of it seems to be made well, have never had it get corrupted or anything, but physically I don't think its made as well as Lexar. But then I am probably more harsh on my cards than some. I've got 2 year old lexar cards that the labels have rubbed off on, never been dropped or run thru the wash, but they look like crap.
The Pro Spec card was still a good deal because I got it and the media medic software for $54, which made the card $20 really. Quite a deal. I'll end up using it for memory to take stuff to and from work, just won't shoot with it.
But as far as cards I think I would buy in the future, I'm stickin with Lexar. Lexars have a metal top/bottom on them which is crimped and tightened into place, making them physically stronger I think. I just got 2 sandisk ultra II 2gb cards cheap a month ago and they are made decently, but I just noticed that the pins slot is a little looser than the Lexar.
But I'm hard on mine like I said. |

| ->> Erik, I agree with you. Just looked at my cards and the Lexar cards are better made and are physically stronger than any of the off-brand names. I am about to buy some 8 and 16Gb lexars for my assignments in the UK. The ProSpecs have never corrupted on me, so far! I will use them as backups when I run out of Lexars! |

| ->> Calumet has Untra II 2gb cards for $30 buy one get one free. Buying a couple cheap cards from Calumet when I have class 3 blocks from their store is a no-brainer, no sense in paying $10 shipping on a $30 purchase. Jody over at Roberts gets all my high-priced purchases, and makes them slightly less high-priced, which is nice. |
