->> This won't mean much to anyone who never heard Myron Cope broadcast a game, never read any of his work in SI, or wondered where the idea to wave yellow towels at a fooball game came from.

->> If you never heard a Myron Cope broadcast, you really missed out. To say his voice was distinctive doesn't begin to describe his unique style. He wasn't a particularly tall man, so he used to joke about needing to sit on a phone book at Cleveland Municipal Stadium so he could see the field far below (the broadcast booths for radio were on the roof.) I used to enjoy listening to him on the way home from working at Steeler games. I wonder if he would have been hired in todays world, where everything is so homogenized. You always knew who it was when you heard Myron Cope on he radio.

->> I grew up in McKeesport and have been a lifelong Steeler fan. I grew up with Bob Prince announcing on KDKA for the Pirates and Myron and his colorful phrases on Sunday afternoons, and also listened to his radio show for WTAE AM . I miss those guys and they made the game come to life for me. Surely we will never see the likes of their king ever again.

->> Myron was a genuinely nice guy who treated his fans with respect. When I was in college in the late '70s, I sent him a script and asked him to record a commercial for an amateur radio convention being held at Pitt. After a week or so I had heard nothing in response so I called his office and left a message with his secretary. Later that afternoon he personally phoned me and said that the tape was on the way!
