->> Is anyone using the Asus EEE PC . If so what programs are you able to run on it and how good does it work to send from the field.

->> Hey Marvin,

The EEE, while pretty capable, is probably not the best and most reliable choice for transmitting from the field. especially If you are going to be editing photos before transmitting. The processor is really not fast enough to edit big files, and with only 8 GB of internal storage possible, you would have to likely drag around a hard drive with you as well, taking away from the portability. Color proofing would be tough as well with such a small low quality, low resolution screen.

For super-portability look into the Apple Macbook Air and the Lenovo Thinkpad X300. Both are certainly capable enough to capture, edit, and transmit the photos you need with ease without sacrificing all that much.

->> Hey Marvin,

I don't own one (yet), but am looking into it for the same reasons as you have stated. I'm trying one out later in the week with GIMP (
http://www.gimp.org/), to see how it handles D300 files.

Alternatives to the lack of HD space are to edit off the memory card, and save files to the tiny HD. You can also add a large SD card to the built in slot to expand it. I've read that newegg.com had 16GB SD's on sale for $40 (
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211245), they are now $57, but still not bad having a 20GB HD laptop that takes very little space in a camera bag (heck my macbook Pro powerbrick probably weights about the same as the unit itself). newegg also had a 2GB RAM stick for $40 that supposedly fit.

David

->> OK... just adding to the list of non EEE suggestions:

Is this an option? Captioning might be a bit painful though without a decent keyboard.
