You need to provide more info on what equipment you have, what you've tried, what is happening, etc., to get some help. |

->> Matt,
I believe what you are asking for is to be able to have your camera in your hand fire a set of strobes and one or more remote cameras. In essence, you want your hand held camera to be a trigger so that your handheld camera and your remote cameras capture the same moment in time.
To the best of my knowledge this is not possible with the MultiMaxes but is possible with the larger, more expensive Flash Wizards.
I believe Robert Beck's story is geared towards getting remote cameras to synch with strobes when fired with a trigger not a handheld camera. |

->> Matt,
The trick is to treat your handheld like a remote.
Follow the steps illustrated in Mr. Beck's column with the lagging and all. You'll still need an external trigger button to fire your 'system' (your remote and your handheld). That's why God invented gaffers tape. Tape the button to your handheld and run the cable to the transmitting PocketWizard. While you're at it, run a sync line and hardline your handheld camera into the strobes. That way you can still fire your handheld without having to fire your remote as well. When the action moves into the remote's frame as well as your handheld, use your little auxillary button to fire both cameras.
The problem your going to run into is that the newer Canon cameras will not lag consistently with the autofocus turned on, and even with it off the lag times are fickle. Have an old 1D or 1Ds lying around? Use it as your handheld and you're good to go. Those puppies lag like champs, even with the autofocus on, to the tune of 95%+ success*. Just make sure you bring extra batteries.
The quagmire with the newer Canons and the autofocus apply to the FlashWizards as well.
Cheers,
Andrew

->> Matt, Landon was accurate with his question - the link was only describing the actions using a MultiMax system and the answer would be different using, say, a PW PlusII. Also, as the succeeding answers indicate there are also other variables.
So, Landon's question still remains...to best help you (and others who may have the same set up as you're trying) what are the specifics? |

| ->> Sorry for lack of info....I am trying to fire a remote synced with strobes triggered by my handheld...not by an external button. I am currently using (3) multimax for my remote with an external button taped to my camera. Handheld multimax is set to CH18 (B). Multimax on the remote is set to receiver CH18 (B) transmitter CH19 (D). The L is activated on the remote slave showing the relay for CH19 (D). The remote slave is set to receive. The strobes are setup with the third multimax on receiver CH19 (D). The question is can I sync the remote with my handheld and the strobes? Thanks for any help!!!! |

->> Matt,
Your chance of success will be very low and your sync speed would have to be pretty slow under the way you want to do it. The answer is above and in Robert Beck's article.
The handheld camera is not the triggering device, but you fire it with a separate release on the PW as well to increase the odds of the cameras syncing to the single set of strobes. This means both cameras are triggered by Wizards and since they are both lagged you get a better chance of them both having the shutter open when the strobes pop.
Using your handheld as the triggering device means it will usually fire a lot faster than the remote. The camera does not give the PW a signal until the shutter is open (same as with as strobe) and the strobes will be told to pop at the same time the remote camera is told to fire meaning the shutter lag in the remote camera will, most of the time, cause the remote to fire too late for the strobes.
Using a Wizard to trigger both the handheld and the remote means you can lag them both cutting out some of the lag time that causes the problems. |
