Get a new Canon 40D for around $1100 (click to see how)

->> I just purchased a new 40D and while shopping I discovered a little trick to bring the price down. The 40D body sells for $1299 while the 40D with the Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens sells for $1499. That lens is routinely selling for $375 on ebay (I got $380 for mine) which effectively brings the purchase price of the 40D body down to around $1100.

I just thought someone else might find this information useful.

->> Just check you don't have AF problems with it. There are reports now surfacing about AF problems with the 40D that are surprisingly similar to the 1D MkIII problems. See a report on Imaging Resource as an example.

->> I just bought a nice defective one yesterday..

The iso expansion was malfunctioning...even though it showed that it was enabled, it wasn't.. I could only use "auto iso", or iso speeds from 200 - 1600.

....which sucks..

->> I've been using my 40D all week. I've shot a number of football games. A pair of games at 3200ASA, there's very little noise (with the noise reduction on)...and the AF is great! Every frame I expected to be in focus was, there were no surprises. No out of focus frames that by all rights should have been in focus. Without a doubt the AF is much faster than my 20D.

I'm very, very pleased with the camera. It's a solid performer. I haven't touched the Mk.II since I got this camera.

->> Thank you Larry!

I already sent it back to the local store where I bought it..(within a few hours after buying it).. but if they haven't sent it back to Canon yet, I'll see if I can get the store to hold it until I try that out! :-)

Thank you very much!
