->> Pair. I'd recommend them because they're reliable but the two problems I've had with them were big ones:
1. When I first signed up I found that their e-mail server was terrible, so I decided to move my e-mail elsewhere and just use Pair for web hosting, which they do very well.
2. I used to run a high-volume site and I paid $180/month for the huge amount of bandwidth it churned through. When I closed that site I switched to a cheaper account. It was then that I discovered they had changed their accounts some time earlier and the amount of bandwidth I was paying $180 for had been available on an $18/month package. I dread to think of the hundreds if not thousands of dollars I paid unnecessarily. I do feel aggrieved that they didn't notify me of the changes. |

->> I would stay away from anything that offers high or unlimited bandwidth/storage space for pretty cheap. These hosts tend to oversell their server space and therefore are more prone to slow loading times and outages.
I am actually in the process of shopping around myself as I would like to leave my current host, IX Webhosting. The reliability of http://www.hostgator.com seems good. |

| ->> I currently have my site hosted by godaddy.com, and I was in the process of having my friend help me out, but it's just been taking too long and I've been thinking about switching over and going with a service that is all backdriven. This way, all I have to do is talk with the designer on how I want the appearance and how I want it laid out and they take care of setting it all up. The designers I've looked at are livebooks.com, sitewelder.com, and also bludomain.com. I've pretty much narrowed my choice down to sitewelder.com and bludomain.com. Anybody have any insight on these two web designers? |

->> I also have several domains hosted using S2F. Support has been prompt the few times I've needed it. They can even help out over IM which is nice. I had a simple problem last week and Grover sorted it out over IM in about 3 minutes which was great.
My only complaint would be the loss of the email contact form they used to provide (but Grover is supposed to be working on fixing that for me). |

->> I'll second recommendations for Pair and Ipower. Over the last few years I've run a few websites off of Ipower servers for clients - and now host my own with them. Occasionally we run into problems, but they seem to be on top of things over there. Pair is a bit more hands on, but also more expensive. I set up one site on Pair for a client who was unhappy with the ipower service. Great hosting in both cases.
I also suggest you hire someone to set up a site for you. If you go with photoshelter, you can use their checkout system so you don't need to worry about something like that built into your server - though most come standard with that sort of thing these days.
Feel free to email me if you have any specific questions about either service. |

->> I recommend http://www.1and1.com They have tons of different package options. They also don't overcharge for the domain name. It is really easy to set up and they have been around for a while so they have a solid foundation. BTW, you probably dont need hundreds of gigs of storage. The photos you put on your site ought to be highly compressed and downsized so people dont rip you off and also so people dont have to wait forever for your images to load. I started with 10 gigs of storage. 1and 1 makes it easy to upgrade your account if you ever need to.

| ->> I've just started doing multimedia, and the output is just regular swf files. So I think it only depends on the computer/browser wich the user has when it comes to being able to play the swf(flash) slideshow. I don't know how flash works on mac, but on a regular pc it's no problem. |

->> http://www.eleven2.com
Fast servers, inexpensive rates, lots of bandwidth, and good customer service. Look up the "launchparty" service.
Flash (and Soundslides) can be run on any server, but there are differences if you want to run PHP or MySQL databases, as not all hosts will provide those services. |

->> I just signed up for lunarpages and so far am very happy. I used kazix for a few years, they came highly recommended, and until just recently was very happy with them.
two weeks ago, my site was 'temporarily deactivated' according to a default suspension page all of my webpages were switched to. I tried to contact the company for 2 weeks and was ignored. They didn't have a phone number listed, and I think their address is bogus. I sent a certified letter to them this past week, but I don't think much will come of it...
So yeah, stay away from Kazix. |

No longer will you hear from tech support, that "our mac guys is off today... call back next tuesday." They are more expensive than most discounted hosting services AND WORTH EVERY EXTRA PENNY!!!! |

->> I am in the process of leaving dreamhost. I've given them a try since November. During that time I've had numerous performance issues on my really simple sites and several outages. They've moved me to several servers and the new ones would work for awhile, then they'd overload them again and I'd start getting outages. Yesterday they had a major outage which took out their control panel for several hours, so I decided to bail even with several months left on a contract.
Currently evaluating Host Gator. A little quirky to set up, but customer support has been great so far and performance seems really good.
