| ->> Just trying to get a latest feeler out for this topic...any suggestions on best places to buy Flash Cards? The only one I saw that impressed me much was Costco, with 2GB Ultra II's at $20/each (now S/O), and NOW they have 4 GB cards at $60/each. Any suggestions would be helpful... |

->> I just bought a PNY 2GB UDMA CF card at eCost.com for $36. If you have a UDMA card reader, this is a great deal, about $10 less than the going rate for 2GB UDMA cards from San Disk and Lexar. I see Newegg now has them a buck cheaper at $35. http://tinyurl.com/2t2eyu
My San Disk (Extreme IV) and Lexar (300x) UDMA cards average 25 mb/sec throughput with my USB UDMA reader. The same cards get about 16-17 mb/sec in fast non-UDMA readers, as do non-UDMA cards (Extreme III/120-133x) regardless of reader.
USB UDMA readers top out at 25-30 mb/sec; while Firewire UDMA readers can reach nearly 40 mb/sec. By contrast, el cheapo USB readers (the ones built in to many PCs) get about 5 mb/sec with even the fastest cards.
If you have UDMA, u da man. ;-)
PS The best deal on UDMA readers is the OmniFlash Uno 40 USB for $20. http://store.compuapps.com/omusb20unrew.html |

->> As of 9 AM EST, Sep 10, newegg.com is out of stock of both the 4GB and 16GB Ritek 233x CF cards. The Ritek web site does not have any info posted on these cards, but given the claimed throughput they would appear to be UDMA cards.
I have put my PNY Optima Pro (2GB) card through its paces, and it compares favorably to my Extreme IV 2GB and Lexar 300x 4GB cards (actually slightly faster than both the "big names"). Newegg has the 2GB for $40 shipped and the 4GB for $55 shipped. |

->> Just a heads up... Anyone that buys Ridata, beware of their CS. If you have any questions, email me, and I will let you know the story...
I can say this... I refuse to buy another card from them, ever.
If you ever have issues with a card, watch out. |

->> Stanley - Not sure which card you're referring to with that link; there are a bunch, some more, some less than $39.95...
But I will throw in an additional plug, this one for the A-Data Turbo 266x card...$64.95 at newegg, but comes with a $15 rebate good through 9/21. $50 bucks for a 4GB UDMA card. http://tinyurl.com/2sj9bp
I clocked this card at 190x (29 mb/sec) on my UDMA reader (USB), a very good speed (it beats my San Disk Extreme IV, Lexar 300x, Transcend 266x, and PNY UDMA cards). You'll need a UDMA firewire reader to approach advertised speeds with any of the UDMA cards.
I've got the 4GB Ridata UDMA card ($45 at newegg) on order, I'll report back on its speed when it arrives. http://tinyurl.com/ytgln4

->> The Ridata 4GB 233x card I posted the link to above does indeed appear to be a UDMA card, though there is still frustratingly little info about it.
Clocked at 23 mb/sec in a UDMA reader, same as Lexar 300x.
Just save the packaging, it is required to submit a warranty claim. But I've had several Ridata cards (CF & SD) with no real problems. |

->> Here's a sweet deal: Transcend's 133x line of cards. These cards transfer data to the computer via UDMA (with a UDMA reader) but don't appear to utilize UDMA for writing (hence the 133x designation). Since almost no cameras use UDMA yet, there's little need to pay for UDMA write speeds.
So for much less than the price of a 233x-300x card, you can get effectively the same thing in the Transcend 133x. Some prices:
$52 for the 4GB version, $25 for 2GB, $86.50 for 8GB, and $158 for 16GB...all prices from http://www.datamemorysystems.com, lowest price per http://www.dealram.com.
I have tested the 2GB and like it very much - I get roughly the same read speeds in my UDMA reader (23 MB/sec) as my Lexar 300x. http://www.sportsphotoguy.com/gear/cards.html |

->> Bizrate.com and write in the search. I have had great results come up. You have to be precise for example Kingston compact flash card or Sandisc Extreme. I usually get directed to stores which have whatever I want in stock.
Staples where I live often has their sales on cards in a back room and I have had to ask for the card that is on sale.
They have great deals. |

->> For the Transcend 16GB card that Chuck mentioned above, mydigitaldiscount.com has them for $129. I have one on the way, and am waiting for the Ridatas to come back in stock. They're priced at $139, which the Transcend also was when I placed the order. Before it shipped, the price cut came through, so Doug lowered the price for mine as well.
I also have experienced slightly better performance with the Ridatas, but the 8GB Transcend I already have isn't bad, either. I figure this'll give me a chance to compare the bigger ones head to head as well, once i can get one of the Ridatas.
