->> After hearing many rumors today and last couple of days I finally called Canon and it is a fact, new Mark III 1.0.9 firmware is coming out end of July. They did say - you can send the camera in to get it installed earlier however that is the only way you can get it until the end of the month once it becomes available online.

I was told it addresses:

LCD Sharpness
AF/AI Servo
and Languages.

READ BELOW:

Dear Canon Customer,

We have updated the firmware in your camera to the latest version (version 1.0.9). This firmware update incorporates the following improvements and fixes:

1. Improves the look of images when enlarged on the LCD monitor. Applies a slightly stronger sharpness setting to the LCD monitor when images are enlarged.

2. Countermeasures for Main Dial response errors (Main, Quick Control, Vertical-grip Main). Fixes a rare response error in the Main Dials in which they either did not respond when rotated or would change several clicks' worth even if only clicked once.

3. Improves the consistency of the AI Servo AF under certain conditions. Reduces the tendency of the camera to autofocus on high-contras backgrounds when shooting in conditions where AF detection is difficult, such as when the main subject is not completely covered by the AF frames or if the main subject's contrast is low.

4. Correct errors in the Italian and Simplified Chinese menu screens.

Please note that this version 1.0.9 firmware will be made available for download from the web at the end of July.

Thank you for understanding.

->> I was told of the update by a sales rep in early July. I know of three guys who have the update. Two have improved AF, one no change but he did not have a "big problem" with af. I will get the update 1st week in Aug. CPS CA told me last week it will be online the same time they get it in the shop.

->> Interesting update rob galbraith has posted

Update, July 23, 2007: Canon USA has asked that we not release EOS-1D Mark III full resolution photos taken with firmware v1.0.9 loaded while Canon in Tokyo examines one of the bodies we used to check out the new firmware. Because what we want more than anything is for the camera's autofocus problems to be resolved, and because an encouraging roadmap for investigating the problems was mapped out in an extended phone call with Canon USA's Chuck Westfall this morning, we've agreed to not put up photos as originally planned for today. We will of course continue to write about EOS-1D Mark III autofocus when there is news to

->> This is very interesting indeed! this is also very good.

1-Canon is listening
2-They really expected the Firmware 1.0.9 to work properly and they are stunned that it didn't work for RG.

They are now interested in figuring out if their Firmware Update was bad or if RG's Cameras are bad, but something is not working properly.

I hope they figure things out soon, both for the sake of Canon and us the users that want a super body that works.

Thanks for the heads-up

(it was sent in for lack of focus, and they kept it for the month of June and most of July)..now I'm hearing of firm ware up-dates to correct my problem, but, I can't get it to the end of the month...shoots man I've had a $4,500.00 bookend now since the end of May....
