->> Check out the shuttle pics and contrails at GettyImages.com if you get a chance. There are some awesome photos taken about an hour after the launch and the sky looks really really cool. The smoke formed circles and shapes that I have never seen and it happened right at sunset.
I am looking forward to images from the shooter from the LA Times, whats his name, you know the one....Blevins? Always cool stuff there.
Donald Montague and Scott McCall (SS members) from Orlando were there tonight (I had to babysit the boys as my wife was there for Fox-TV) and Red Huber from the Orlando Sentinel is by far the best and most experienced shooter of the Shuttle, check the images at http://www.orlandosentinel.com/.

->> Hey guys, what kind of access is there for the public/non-local press? Obviously, there's a lot of remote work being done, but just how far away do they keep folks? I've threatened for the past several years to make the drive down and watch a launch, but of course I'd have to shoot some too (I'd probably have to bribe the family with a pitstop at Disney though).
Very nice work on the Sentinel's site. |

->> Very nice Gene...
Of course i miss the launch and everything goes off without a hitch.
As for public access, About seven miles away. Press is 3 miles. I'd kill for the shots from the top of the VAB. |

->> They look great, Gene! How many cameras did you have set up?
I used to work at Johnson Space Center as a web programmer. I created several websites showing NASA photography. I was told that photographers use noise sensors at the remote locations to set off their camera. Is that still true? |

Uh, what's that silhouetted figure in the bottom center of Gene's shot doing? Good thing the launch wasn't Saturday, June 9th, National No-Chimping DayŠ. |

->> Thanks everybody... It was a 22hr day by the time we got up in the morning and got back to hotel room after the launch. Chris I use 7 cameras at the launch, 4 are remote cameras that are around the shuttle and 3 at the press sight. Here is link of photos to show what we use for remote cameras. All of my triggers are sound activated...Gene

| ->> Sam...when you have about 1,500 dollars in camera gear and sound triggers(in each box) out there in any kind of weather that goes through Florida you don't want to worry about it. I can leave those cameras out there for a week if i had to and they are safe from all the heat, rain, wind, dust, bugs? and moisture that KSC-FL and Vandenberg-CA have.....Gene |
