->> This is probably a little bit off-topic. I don't have an opinion on this issue one way or the other. It's going to be weird writing captions for Bradley. I found the article on my Insight web pages local news.
"Bradley Will Go Without Nickname, Mascot
Feb 3, 2007
The NCAA says Bradley University cannot use the nickname "Braves," but students at the school don't want to use "Bravehearts," "Bobcats" or "Squirrels." So, the school says it will remain without a sports nickname for the immediate future. Officials have ended a mascot search, saying they could not agree on an acceptable team name. The school's teams were called the Braves until the NCAA cracked down on Native American themed mascots. Bradley formerly had a cartoon caricature Indian dance the sidelines at games. Administrators say new nickname ideas were so unpopular that they're calling off plans to create a new one."
I wonder if more of the impacted schools will follow suit. |

->> Perhaps. Is it fair? No.
The Bradley Blanks. Yum.
NCAA PC Patrol 1, Common Sense 0.
Oddly, we just found an old envelope from Florida State with the tagline, "Scalp 'Em Seminoles!"
Cheers,

| ->> One of our local Div. III schools McMurry University is doing the same thing. They were the Indians and the school has decided to go sans mascot. The funny thing is many of the students are still doing the same chants and cheering "Indians" during the game. |

| ->> Writing captions should be no issue... they're still the Braves. |

| ->> Hollins University, a D-III ODAC member and women's college in Virginia, does not have a mascot or nickname that I know of. Perhaps they were a little upset in a feminist sort of way at nearby Sweetbriar College's nickname (also a women's college & ODAC member): the Vixens. |
