->> Gee Mark, nice to offer help when someone has asked for it?
I know people like Taniwaki will say I'm a fun-hater, but to me if someone is looking for help and advice maybe a reply with useful information would be the nice and professional thing to do.
Ok, it's fine to try to be funny on ss.com for your posse of friends, but why not also offer up real, solid information since you have worked there to try to help the Lisa out? ... then maybe crack a joke or comment on your opinion of the stadium.
I don't know about you, but I think trying to lift the professional level of this forum is something we all should strive for. Trying to be funny or make what you think are cutting comments at the expense of someone who really needs help is not good for anyone.
This is akin to someone posting crude and irresponsible comments on a personal website or blog thinking it's humorous and cool, then not taking responsibility for the comments later when it comes back to haunt them.
Remember, this is a *very* small profession. What goes around, comes around. Sure being "cool" and "funny" is fine. But if someone is asking for help, why not try to do that if you can?
Hopefully you sent a message directly to Lisa with helpful information she asked for ...
The Internet is a wonderful, useful, fun and vital tool ... but once things are out there, everyone can read your comments and maybe come to some conclusions that you don't necessarily want.
Be cool. Be cute and funny if you want. But please, if someone is making a plea for help ... offer it if you can.

->> Well said Bert. I may have been guilty of the crime at some time, too.
I used to shoot in Phoenix and was among the photographers when U of Phx. opened. By the time I moved to Denver, things had changed at the stadium. The wireless was very bad, with continnual promises of improvement. The photographers work room is small, about the size of a large apartment's master bedroom.
As some of you probably remember at Sun Devil Stadium the media workroom was non existent for photographers until the BCS when they set up a tent. My guess, and it is only a guess is that a media workroom will be set up in the south end zone behind the seats in the end zone. That would be comparable to the previous BCS set up, but the "tent" could be set up outside, too.
Wish I was going to be there to enjoy the games with you all. |

->> I added some info on it the other day. Unfortunately, I have no clue about how the bowls will be handled. But, I do know some people that may know some people that could have answers. I will do my best to find out and put forth the information on the bowls.
Lisa, during night games, I shoot between 1/500th-1/800th at 2.8 ISO 1600, depending on the team colors, and area of the field (the corners are a little darker)
If you'd like to see examples from the Cardinals-Broncos game shoot me a message via SS and I'll be glad to send you some.

->> Thanks Robert-----all I needed was a friendly response!!!!
I thought that was what the Message Board was about!!!!!!!
To Will & Max: thanks for your help. I've shot lots of night games and use the same settings as Max.....was hoping since the stadium was built in 2006, the media room should be up-to-date and the lighting hopefully very bright.
David & Brad--I'll check out the "guide"--thanks for the tip! |

->> Lisa,
Just come prepared to the stadium. On a normal NFL day, there will only be upwards of 30 photographers. At the Fiesta Bowl, I believed they credentialed over 100 photographers last year. The current photo room will in no way accomodate that many people, and I am sure they are making allowances for it.
At past Fiesta Bowls, they set up Media Tents just outside the stadium that could hold all of us, and they set up wireless just for the media tent as well. I'm sure they will do their best to make sure that the media will have what it needs. The Fiesta Bowl Committee are a great bunch, and are very helpful.
Lighting always seem to be slightly better during Bowl Games, but at the Monday Night Football game when the Bears came to town, I was shooting at 1/640 F2.8 at ISO800. I did not attend this past Sunday's game, so I cannot attest to how the lights may have changed.
Just an FYI, if you don't have a parking pass, the Buses under police escort will leave the Media Hotel at 11am and 1pm. After that, it will be hit or miss. So, make sure you plan for that. If you do have a parking pass, I'd still suggest that you get there at least three hours early, and don't plan to leave for at least an hour after the game. Unless they open a gate just for the media, it takes like an hour just to get out of the parking lot after an NFL game. |

| ->> Oops, my mistake, that bus schedule I mentioned is for the National Championship game. Not the Fiesta Bowl. (The Fiesta Bowl schedule might be the same, but I have not checked that one specifically yet.) Sorry for any confusion...I was just released from the hospital yesterday. ;) |

->> I just left UP Stadium, shooting a stadium prep story for the Arizona Republic. They claim to have expanded the photo workroom. There will be 50 ethernet access points and a "couple" of new wireless antennas which will make wifi more reliable in the workroom and in the press conference room adjacent the photo work room. Folks are free to bring their own routers to expand their networks if they want to. There will not be wireless on the field, it is about 50 feet from the field to the workroom through the visitors tunnel. We did not get into parking or other amenities.
Hope this helps.

->> Lisa --- Looks like you're getting some good, useful info from ss.com members in addition to what was pointed out in "The Guide".
Now THIS is what Sports Shooter should be all about ... photographers helping photographers!
Happy Holidays ... hope to see some of you in Phoenix in a couple of week!

->> I will be in town to shoot the NC game. I like the thought of 1/640 F2.8 at ISO800. I may be able to use a 1.4 teleconverter.
If they run this game like the 2002 NC, we'll get vests that are assigned to a specific corner of the field and we can't move from that corner. A teleconverter will come in handy.
Having said that, it would be nice to find someone that is shooting from the Florida perspective to change ends with at the end of the 1st and 3rd quarters... Maybe I should start a thread concerning this... |

->> I should have asked in the last post, can we kneel in the end zone? There are different rules at the 3 NFL stadiums in Florida and I wonder what the rules at the Phoenix stadium are. Should I pack the knee pads or leave them at home?
Thanks to all....

no problems kneeling in the end zone for the Cardinals, but the bowl games may be different.

->> Alex, I've shot three of the last four Fiesta Bowl's and there has never been any restriction on the position from which we choose to shoot. However, for the NC game, we were restricted to one corner of the field, from the goal post to the sideline and up to the 25 yard line, depending on the color of your vest.
I do know of a few people that swapped vests during the quarter change.
I'll give you a call on Friday. BTW: I'll be at the OSU-Florida basketball game on Saturday. Should be interesting. |

Also, good to see some good information being exchanged. |

->> Louis,
I've shot several bowls and the only one that had a restriction was the 2004 Orange Bowl. However, there were so many complaints, that by halftime, the restriction was lifted.
I appreciate the helpful info, also!!! |
