No: G1588 is a nice heavy duty monopod. It is very strong and has the extra height for anyone 6' tall or higher. Most of the other monopods only extend to a max of around 63" [5' 3"] which really is not tall enough unless you you plan to bend over all the time or only shot while on your knees. I believe the G-1578L extends to about 77" [6' 5"]. And, because of the strenght, you can support even a 500 or 600 is you need to.
