Exposure equals footcandles
Gary Mills, Photographer
Culver | IN | USA | Posted: 10:22 AM on 11.22.06
->> I work for a prep/boarding school that is building a new indoor riding hall and equestrian center. I've been told it will be bright enough for video but I don't believe that will suit my minimum of iso 800, 500/sec @f2.8. My old Sekonic with footcandle readings disappeared decades ago. Is there a way to convert my desired settings to footcandles? Thanks.

->> A foot-candle equals about 10.74 lux or, for a rough conversion, multiply foot-candles by 10 to get lux.

Conversion from Lux to an exposure setting has many steps. Please check out this site for all of those steps
http://johnlind.tripod.com/science/scienceexposure.html or of someone has a meter that still has a dial they could just turn it out quickly.

->> Just took a reading with my Sekonic L-558.

1/500 @ f2.8 at iso 800

= 12 EV

Searching on Google showed that 12EV is equivalent to:
12EV = 10,240.00 LUX = 951.00 Footcandles.

Hope that's what you were looking for.
