->> Mark, I know you're not talking about me. My photos are cliche (I just read Robert Caplin's comment in the last thread about drivers in rearview mirrors... yesterday I uploaded that very thing! Yeesh.) but I certainly am not cliche. Okay so maybe I am. I am, after all, an underpaid, unshaven, newspaper photographer who does his fair share of bitchin' and moanin'.
Look folks, it doesn't matter if it's been done before, unless it's been done by you. If you've never tilted a horizon, mounted a remote on a backboard, panned at a race, lensbabied/ring lit/converted to b&w, put your dog (or bear) in your icon, etc. DO IT!! Just because it's been done a gazillion times doesn't make it wrong. Just make it yours. And then move on to the next thing. |

->> Hey! I want to be a cliche, too! What do you have against non-students with self-portraits??? Poorly light, done badly, square on - mine is all of the above so maybe I can get in there. But I was 38 floors on the edge of a skyscraper for it - and no, it wasn't just a bad day.
I really dig Gary's cat icon. Makes me want to get the catnip out for a little photo session. |
