->> Hi guys,

I am planing to buy new macbook and Aperture in next two weeks.

How many of you are using aperture for your RAW files and how happy are you with program.

I am using I book and DPP now.

Thanks for your help!

->> Steve and Samo:

Every program has its own algorithm for converting raw and I find that Aperture's does the job with truer colors than any of the other application I've used.

I realize that everyone has their favorites and this is not to imply that the other applications don't work. I still use them when appropriate.

Another thing to consider is that monitors will vary. I view my images on a 20 inch iMac but the same image can look terrible (color wise, not content) on some other type of screen.

Like Ramses says, if anything needs a different degree of editing, I send it to Photoshop and then back to Aperture.

->> Steve - Mullensky hit it on the nail. I use Apeture's RAW conversion for non-critical work. Contact sheets, that kind of thing. I use Capture (I'm a Nikon guy) but after trying Phase One LE I will be switching to that for all my critical development and then move to PS for my edits.

I see Apeture as a great DAM system. You book things into the library, edit pick group and manage the files. If you need something quick to output - you got it. For critical edits you check the image out of the library - do your work and then check the image back into the library to make sure you keep track of the versions. Used in this manner Apeture is just the best out there. Disappointment starts when people compare it or hopes to replace their PS or other dedicated edit system. Its a cool (and terribly effective) system for what its designed to do.
