| ->> I am looking for a slide show program that will allow me to display images crisply and clearly (assuming I have crisp and clear images) set to music AND I can set the individual images to different time sequences. What is out there? iPhoto and Aperture will not let me change individual slide times. iViiew Media Pro will but I can't figure out how to get music into it AND I don't know which compression to use to make the slides look good on a full screen. In iPhoto the images look great at 300 dpi/2-5MB files and I just let the program do it's thing to shove them over to iDVD. |

What is the slide going to be played on? DVD through a TV or on a computer? CD being played on a computer? |

| ->> I use Adobe Premiere 1.5 for ultimate control in the time line and Final Cut Pro may do so as well. Adobe Premiere Elements or Final Cut Pro Express may give you more control over the length of time you display images, however, there will be a learning curve |

->> I have used ProShow Gold for over a year now with great results. http://www.photodex.com/
Inexpensive and very easy to learn. Individual slide times and transitions between slides can be adjusted quickly and easily.
I use 200-300 dpi files, but that is probably overkill.

->> It looks to me like ProShow is a PC only software.
IView works great for me. For music, simply drop the mp3 file at the start of the show. |

->> Robert --
Go with Soundslides. Their is a version made for a PC. We use it at The Journal News (17 Staffers) all the time. For your sound, it just needs to be saved in a format such as MP3, then it is a very easy import.
During the US Open at Winged Foot, we had a very comprehensive website, complete with multi-media, done on-site. Below are some links to our website to give you examples of what can be done.

This will take you to our coverage of the US Open Golf. |

->> One thing I forgot to add:
We have found that you can full-size jpeg images (1-2 megs in size) and soundslides will scale them down to web-size friendly files. When you use a projector in a training type session and display them on a wall, the image project well and are very crisp. Generally we just take our images we send to the paper and import them into Soundslides. The program takes care of the resizing for you.
Hope this helps. --Matthew |

->> I use showitweb listed above and it rocks. Great program and it allows you to do custom timing by playing the music and then hitting the space bar when you want to change the image. I'm a drummer so for me it was excellent to see this feature as now it makes timing the images to the music very, very easy.
Here's a link to a video I did for our local college.

I still have a few more teams to shoot and fit them in somewhere, but it only took me about 10 minutes to make this video using the music and timing they provided. |

->> Robert,
I believe when using iView Media Pro you have to have the music file be the first thing in your catalog. And it will then play for the duration of the song as your images show.
Personally I would recommend FotoMagico by Boinx - http://www.fotomagico.com/ - You can time each image separately or you can time them all to the same length. Or you can use markers in the song file to sync the images with the music. And you can individually control each transition. Plus much more.

| ->> I'm assuming the showit web is for web stuff only. I would like a program that will show well on a TV, full size on a computer screen (via cd or dvd) and can be resized for the web. Did I mention it would help if I could include text? I work ONLY on a mac platform. |

->> When you intend to play the show on a TV, you should create an export with TV quality resolution. Here is what I've found.
Format - VCD - SVCD - DVD
Resolution (NTSC) 352x240 480x480 720x480
Resolution (PAL) 352x288 480x576 720x576
You might also look here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution
So while your files are 300DPI, I believe it's the actual dimensions of the file that you should be more concerned about to ensure they properly fit the screen. Also, when exporting to the DVD format, you should apply more sharpening than usual and export it without compression. I could be wrong. =] |

->> Robert,
It sounds like the two issues you have are finding a slideshow program where you have control of the slides, and the second, which I find the most difficult and confusing, producing the slideshow to broadcast in multiple formats, Web, TV, and through the computer monitor with the same quality.
I provide wedding DVD Slideshows for my wedding clients. These are produced for TV broadcasts, Web and from the computer.
I have tried many programs and the easiest and most consistent is iMovie. You can transition the slides, set the time to whatever length you choose and at the “burns effect” on any images you choose. Final Cut is great however there is a greater learning curve, like having an amateur photographer using aperture vs. iphoto.
The most difficult aspect of slideshows is consistant quality output for TV, Computer Monitors, and the web.
The resolution and sizing for TV is completely different from you monitor. If you don’t output properly, and you will find that there is flicker from your images on TV, and the images are ‘soft’ when you show your slideshow fullsize on your computer monitor.
I have a certain workflow that helps me with outputting with the same quality and sizing. (since this message is long enough) you can call me or email me, and I would be happy to provide some workflow solutions for you.
