Goodbye and good luck to Francis Gardler
Nicole Martyn, Photographer
Columbia | MD | United States | Posted: 10:26 AM on 07.31.06
->> SportsShooter member Fran Gardler left his 10-year stint as a photographer at Patuxent Publishing Co. this weekend.

An SS member since 2003, Gardler contributed to the SS community over the past few years with his amazing updates and well-thought articles for the newsletter.

But anyone who sought out Fran for advice or an edit knows this much: Fran’s best-kept-secret is his ever-present willingness to give of his time – to teach and mentor young photographers.

So it’s fitting then, that Gardler will spend the next year contributing to the photojournalism community as a photojournalist-in-residence at Western Kentucky University, his alma-mater.

WKU undergrads, take advantage of this resource.

Everyone else, if you haven’t already, please join me in wishing him good luck.

We’re going to miss you, Fran.

You Kentucky kids are lucky, take advantage of having Fran around, not just for picture critiques but for advice on journalism and life in general. Just remember to call him Mr. Gardler.

Wow, what a switch!, but totally understood considering how many times I went to you for advice in the lab. Good luck back in BG.

->> Fran,
Great meeting you during our 24 hours stint at the Vanderbilt Medical Center. The book looks great and you were a big part in making it look that way. It has already won several awards. Thanks for your help in making this one hell of a photo story.
You will be close at WKU so you better look me up when you get to Nashville.
You are going to one of the best photojournalism schools in the country in which you all ready know. Lots of great shooters come out of WKU.
I know you will add some great experience to this school. Wishing you all the best and tell Jennie I said hello when you get there.
Cheers and Congrats,

Congratulations on the new job. Those undergrads are getting a hell of a shooter to learn from. I'm just glad I got the chance to work with you last summer.
