Anybody up for some rugby?
Jeff Stanton, Photographer

->> I shot some at a rugby tournement here in town on Saturday. Although I had played the sport back in my college years, I had never shot any before. I'll admit I was a little rusty, sort of like shooting your first football game of the season.

Still I enjoyed myself and the challenge and of course, dealing with the Arizona sun is always interesting. Check my member page for the shots.

->> Jeff,
Ain't rugby a blast to shoot! It's a tough guy's game. No helmets, barley any padding. Wouldn't catch me out there.
It's not a sport I shoot often, but I found a local club that plays here in NH and have shot 3 games so far. My page currently has a game shot last week.
It's a great game.
Mark

->> You guys are right, rugby is a lot of fun to shoot. The action is nonstop and fun to follow. It's tricky cutting through the dust clouds the players stir up on a dry day!

I've got a high school game on my member page, and I've put up a gallery here:

My compliments on your galleries. Mark, I like the backlighting and Jeff, the expressions you caught are great.

The high school league is at the club sport level here in Oregon. It has 20 boys teams and 9 girls teams from various locations throughout Western Oregon. It's great action...I am hoping that it will continue to grow in popularity. Fun to shoot also.

A few friends in college played the sport. Photographed it some. One fellow kept injuring himself at pretty much every game. Always in a sling or splint. So we started calling him "Half Man." Nickname stuck throughout college.

Women's Rugby is equally tough. Both are great fun to shoot.

Dislocated both shoulders, tore my rotary cuff, fractured my skull ( fricken moron from Guilford College punched down on me with his class ring!) and green fractured my tibula my first practice at Arizona State when I transferred. Ended my career since I had to jump into photography. Ahhhh...but I miss playing all the same. Outside center and wing back.

And those rugby parties............anyone chug the boot after the first try?

Um. Mark. A tough gal's game, too. I'm in my first year of retirement with the Little Rock Women's RFC (in our days of fame known as the Ozark Ladies). Meaning I could be persuaded to play at some point in the future, but I'm trying to graduate to just shooting the sport.

Played two and a half tournament games in KC with a broken hand. Tore my ACL and knee cartlidge in one fell swoop in St. Louis (Missouri has not been a lucky state for me). Broke my nose going into a ruck, taped some cotton in there and all was well. Not to mention numerous fingers. All in all, it's been a blast.

Scott, what the H-E-double-Ell was the ref doing letting some guy play while wearing his class ring?

Here's a gallery of my teammates in their first game this season:

Look for upcoming shots of 7s, where the Little Rock women still excel!

Michelle
