->> Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a side arm w/ laptop platform for a tripod?The kind that attaches to the center column (while camera is attached to the head).

Check out Ram-Mounts, they make all kinds of mounts.

Also, I think I remember where ThinkTank is working on an in-car mount for laptops that may also clamp to a tripod. But that may be my memory failing me.

->> don't know what your timetable is but if you can wait, check out the laptop platform by overxposed.com. it hasn't been released yet, but i've seen the prototype in person. ss member pete dasilva makes pretty crafty products that are well designed and constructed.

vince laforet used a laptop prototype in tornio. it's kind of hard to tell because of the black curtain, but the 15" powerbook is resting on a plate. you can see an image here -

->> Doesn't McNally use one? I think Bogen/Manfrotto has one, a bar with two tripod head mounts, you can easily adapt one to hold a platform for a laptop.

With a Manfrotto Accessory Arm Cat # 3153.

The whole rig mounts on top of my tripod. Simple. Stable. Easy to set up and use.

I use a Linhof ball head with a quick-release plate for the camera.

->> Thanks everyone,

Walter's setup looks like the ticket, and looks like the one McNally uses in the Nikon DVD. I was too busy searching everywhere for "laptop platform" and "notebook platform" so I missed it.

James- thanks for the ram-mounts.com website. I think my dad has one in his pickup- probably too heavy for my needs, but I found alot of other useful mounts on there for future reference.

Cheers!

Dave

My set up IS almost exactly what Joe is using 'cause I asked him, and he got me in touch with his contact at Bogen for all the part numbers.

I use a different ball head, and he may have the more expensive Accessory Arm.

The laptop plate is the same.
