The future of photojournalism is here. There are people on all sides of the “Will we all be videographers in 10 years” debate, but seeing some of the work on Brian Storm’s recently-launched website makes me excited about exploring alternatives to visual journalism.
I met Brian Storm at the Eddie Adams Workshop this year and was very impressed with his vision.
If you want a fun piece to start with, check out this amazing video. It left me in awe the first time I saw it (and second and third time for that matter).

| ->> I'd say don't start with http://www.mediastorm.org/0001.htm, its so amazing that you'll be disappointed with the others (at least visually)...the other are more powerful stories in my opinion. |

->> I agree, the entire site is inspiring.
As I watch the different pieces, I am reminded that to best tell a story we must ask what media will best convey the message.
Each piece on MediaStorm's site is engaging and effective because they each use a different combination of media. What works for the Cuba story wouldn't work well for the soldier story and what works for the NYC story wouldn't work well for the old men story.
Visual journalism is undergoing a reformation and this website shows that it will produce an ever-evolving powerfully-effective story-telling tool for journalism. |

->> I don't see this as a great reformation. We have had slide shows for a long time and lately we have been able to just do it a little more sophisticatedly. However, this technology has been around for about 10 years.
Just some people are just now seeing what others have been doing for years. |

->> Stanley,
I agree that slideshows are nothing new.
However, there is a great difference between a simple slideshow and using a combination of media (video, still photos, music, audio interviews and ambient sounds) to tell a single story.
It is this mentality that is helping visual journalists more effectively convey the depth of a story to viewers/readers.
A question for those currently capturing audio while shooting: How do you keep from hearing the camera's shutter in the audio? |
