SportsChrome Founder Bob Tringali Sr. Dies

->> Bob Tringali Sr. died this afternoon at 5pm EDT in New York City. I was with his best friend Mickey Palmer in the visiting dugout at McAfee Coliseum in Oakland before tonight's Yankees @ A's game when Mickey received the phone call telling him the bad news. Mickey asked that I mention something about Bob's passing on this site in order to let people know.
Many of you might not have ever met Bob Tringali Sr., but I am sure many of you have shot alongside his son Rob Tringali Jr. at a ballgame.
Mickey had just flown back to the Bay Area this afternoon after visiting with Bob in New York for the past four days. In fact, Mickey came to the ballpark early this afternoon straight from the airport.
Bob and Mickey grew up together in New York City. Bob was Mickey's best friend and partner when Mickey founded Focus on Sports (a large stock agency representing many of the best photographers in the United States including most of the Sports Illustrated staffers during that period of time) in 1975. Focus was the first photo agency in the world to devote itself entirely to sports.
In 1983 Bob left Focus to pursue other photographic interests and created SportsChrome Inc. in 1986 along with his son Rob Tringali Jr.
Over the years many top photographers have contributed to SportsChrome (http://www.sportschrome.com), among them SportsShooter.com member Michael Zito.
My condolences go out to Rob Jr., the Tringali family, Mickey and the rest of Bob's friends. |

So sorry to hear about your dad. Was it sudden? I remember showing your dad my portfolio when I graduated college & was looking for a stock agency. That was a long time ago, but I remember him being a very nice guy. |

I am truely sad for your loss. It's been my great honor to call you a friend and I hope these messages here help in some way.
Been along time since we played catch at Dodgers Stadium and I still think about those days as great times in this buisness.

Your dad and I squeezed into a ringside spot together at a boxing show at Foxwoods casino. He had an easy smile and made me laugh. He made a very uncomfortable night very comfortable. Sorry to hear he passed.

->> Hey Rob-
I'm really sorry to hear this sad news - I too met your dad while working a fight at Foxwoods, actually a bunch of them, during the US Olympic Boxing Trials in 2000 - Over the course of a couple of days, I had some nice chats, and a lot of laughs, along with him and Johnny I, during the event. He was an instantly likable guy.
My thoughts are with you and your family.
Warm wishes,
M David |

->> Hi Rob,
My deepest sympathy for your loss from Kathy and I.
I was lucky enough to know Bob for many years (working with Rob and his dad) as one of the Sportschrome contributors. Bob was always a grand motivator, anytime you needed inspired you would pick up the phone and call Bob and after a fun conversation, you would run right out the door and create stock for him. Bob molded many of us and he was always there if you needed his advice or assistance.
We will all miss his prescence.

I never forgot the things he said to me. He always had a good word for me. May Bob Sr. rest in peace. My deepest sympathy from the Reece family. May God bless you and the Tringali family. |
