Sprint cell phone transmission...

->> Sorry to beat a dead horse, but I'm wondering if anyone out there uses their Sprint PCS cell phone for remote transmission, and if so, which models of phones work as a modem.
I bought a Sanyo VI-2300 cell phone to use, but was later told that Sprint had disabled the modem capabilities of that particular phone.
I assume that I've configured the everything correctly.
I use an iBook G4, and will have to connect the phone using a USB data cable.
Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Alex |

->> I've used several different Samsung models and they all work perfectly.
Sprint doesn't sell the cables for most phones because they discourage the use of them as modems in this sense. there has been some discussion whether they consider it "legal" or not in their contracts.
But you can find cables from many third-party vendors. |

| ->> I have never used my Sprint phone, but have a Sprint Novatel Wireless card from Sprint...plugs into my pcmcia slot and dials sprint's access numbers. Works fine, faster than dialup, but not near cable. |

| ->> Alex, I think there's a thread on this from a month ago maybe or a little less, try searching for cell phones or remote transmission. I'm pretty sure that the USA today folks use sprint, and for some reason I think I read that some of the other Gannett papers do as well, and that it works great for them. Not sure how to go about configuring your computer though, sorry, but I think the info's in the older threads. |

| ->> I recently got a Sanyo MM-7400. I've never used it to transfer photos - haven't had the need since I got the phone, but I've frequently connected it to my laptop and used it as a 115k modem to check email and surf the web when I'm in the hinterlands. |

->> I use a Sanyo 8100 phone. Go to Radio Shack and they sell the cable and the software called, "Futuredial Snapdialer".
The cable is $20 AND THE SOFTWARE IS $40 (I THINK).
Works great, I use it all the time. |

->> Gary-
The Futuredial software is not Mac compatible, PC only. |

| ->> Using the Sanyo SCP 7300 with the cables from radio shack and software from Best Buy. The DataPiolot from susteen works great. It even comes with the cables. I get 115K as well which I feel is a bit slow but it is reliable. I have heard all the rumors about the legality issue but have not seen anything in the contract. I asked at the local store and the rep told me exactly what to get and where to get it. If it's against the contract, how could a sales rep tell you how to do it? |

->> You don't need any kind of dial software with Macs.
You set up a location for your Sprint (or Verizon) phone with the proper dial string in Internet Connect
Your user name and password are the ones you set up for Sprint's PCS Vision (you must have a PCS Vision plan) and the dial string is #777 and it is all set up in Mac's Internet Connect dialer. First select the phone as the modem (a Samsun phone shows up as "Samsung CDMA Technology") and the modem script is build into OSX so you don't need to download anything.
You dial #777 to connect to the higher speed PCS network. If you try to dial a modem, such as into AOL or the like, you will be zipping along at 9600 baud. Not a pretty sight. The PCS network is pretty fast. I think my best is 5 photos in about 3 minutes. |

->> You don't need the Futuredial software for PCs, either. Just set up a new connection using the settings George describes and you should be all set. I don't think you need the drivers for your phone, but if you do, you can easily download those from the Internet. No purchasing software, no mess.
