(0) | Off Topic (0) | Inappropriate (0) |   Definitions Barry Markowitz, Photographer Laie | Hi | USA | Posted: 5:37 AM on 05.10.05 ->> I (and other non basketball UCLA athletes)were fortunate to casually bump into Coach Wooden in the early 70's and enjoy a brief walk and chat usually after practice (his basketball, our football practice) from Pauley Pavillion to his office or the Ackerman Union for our training table meals. I have never gone to any of Wooden's formal speeches..but in that era he was a positive calming yet motivating grandfather like influence on us all. Then was like now, a war was on, drugs were prevalent, and alot of bad choices for we younger folk could be made. Wooden reminded us to keep our personal dignity and in the bigger picture, pride in our university. I am glad that he continues in relatively good health, and that regardless of the Bruins' win/loss record, we have plenty of good things to reflect on as alumni.  This post is:  Informative (0) | Funny (0) | Huh?
