->> I've created a portfolio slideshow in powerpoint and was curious if there was a way to burn it to a cd where someone could view it without powerpoint.

Thanks,
Jeff

->> Jeff,

You could put PowerPoint Viewer, available free on the Microsoft Website, on the same CD. It's about 2MB and allows a person without PP to view a presentation.

->> I think you're looking for Camtasia Studio, a program that records the screen in video format:

Once you have the video, you can burn it to a DVD or a Video CD. I've done this once, although you lose a little quality because you're dealing with a compressed video file. The nice part about this is that you don't need a computer to view the presentation. You can play it on your TV, for example.

Apparently there is now a plugin that is specific for PowerPoint, which makes this even easier.

->> Another option in PowerPoint is to save out as a web page. You may lose some of the transition FX though... not sure, but worth a try...

->> Just came across an interesting "add-in" for PowerPoint 2002/2003 called Microsoft Producer 2003 (Windows Version). I'm downloading it right now, and will test it out this week. The price is right (it's free)...

Here's their published description:

"Use Microsoft Producer 2003 for Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 to capture and synchronize audio, video, slides, and images, then preview and publish a rich media presentation virtually anywhere for viewing in a Web browser."

"Microsoft Producer 2003 for PowerPoint 2003 is the next release of this very popular add-in for PowerPoint 2003 and PowerPoint 2002. Producer 2003 provides users with many powerful new features that make it easier to synchronize audio, video, slides, and images to create engaging and effective rich-media presentations. Producer 2003 gives content and media professionals, as well as everyday PowerPoint users a host of new content authoring features."

And here's the link to the download page:

I'll post some comments in a week or so, after I've played with it. Anyone else try it yet?

- Ed.
