Al Bello's World Series shots
John Nash, Photographer

->> Needless to say, as a life-long Boston Red Sox fan, I enjoyed seeing Al Bello's shots from the Red Sox/Cardinals World Series. In hindsight, even seeing the great image of Manny Rameriez making a Steve Sax out of himself ("Two err is human, three err is Steve Sax") in left field brought a smile to my face.

The question, I pose, though is this: Al's got two shots from totally different angles of the final out and game-ending celebration. One obviously, was done by remote. How often do photographers, at that level, use remote sources to get shots and what kind of set ups do they use.

Just curious.

I love that shot. That was probably the most important game to win.

->> Love them Sox! Love this site even more. I've gotten a lot better over the past year, much as a result of this site. The great thing about this 'Art' is that no matter how much you improve, there's always someone to learn from. (For me, there's many!)

Al, you're now one of my hero's!

Many folks(not here) complain about guys like me. I've got a full time job that's got nothing to do with photography and got into this 'side business' because of the advancements in digital photography.(and my love of photography and sports)

I look at my home page and then the recent photo's by Al at a couple of games and say, "You guys are really artists and have perfected your craft far beyond where I ever expect to be. I'm doing paint by numbers and you're painting the Sistine Chapel."

The key is, if you're really into what you're doing and perfect your craft, knuckleheads like me will never catch up!

You inspire me on a regular basis to get better and my small, action sports photography business could never be where it is without your help and inspiration.

Now, enough with the sentimental stuff, I've gotta go fill some orders...

->> John,

I will put up a remote usually in situations where it is a bigger event, or I put it in a place I am not allowed to be, or hoping to get a big moment from a different angle. The wide Remote shot from above was put there to get an angle that told the story in one photo, which was the end of World Series celebration. I would not have put it up there for games 1,2,3. I remember talking this remote position over with my Photo Director Brandon Lopez and we both agreed that I needed to put the remote someplace where nobody else was. We had 5 photographers there. We did not have anyone at the top of the stadium nor did anyone else so that is where I put it. Luckily the shot worked out ok.

Sam,

The Pedro shot was a pan blur shot at 1/15 sec at F 5.6 at the low ASA setting on a Canon Mark 2 on auto white balance.

I hope this helps you both which is what this site is for.

Thanks alot, Al

->> This is what is so great about this site, established professionals like Al Bello helping out others to give insight into how images were created, most other industry pros won't ever share for fear of giving away the secret. As we all know it is the talent and skills of the shooter that captures the shot not the "receipe". A Thank You to everyone that shares and exchanges information and experiences on this site. I look forward to meeting everyone at the Luau.
