Screen Capture software?
Andy Mead, Photographer, Photo Editor

->> A message base search turned up nothing for screen capture software. And before I download freeware off the internet - so much of it has spyware these days - I'd thought I'd ask here.

I'd like to start archiving screenshots of websites that use my stuff. I have both WinXP and Win2000 machines.

Any recommendations on screen capture software?

FullShot is nice also.

->> ALT-PrintScrn = copies only the active window

CTRL-PrintScrn = copies everything being displayed on your monitor at the time

Either of these commands will copy an image to your clipboard. Like Jamie says, you can then paste it into another application like Photoshop.

PaintshopPro (
http://www.jasc.com) is a middle tier graphics editing program that has a screen capture tool built in. It allows the user to lasso specific areas.

It's a useful tool that I hope is implimented in some future version of PS

->> ALT-PrintScrn? CTRL-PrintScrn? For me it's just PrintScrn, no ALTs or CTRLs... anyway, yeah, it's a great feature of Windows... one of very few.

->> I also vote for "SnagIt!".

Unlike the Windows keys (Alt-PrntScrn, or Ctrl-Alt-PrntScrn), SnagIt lets you selectively choose what is captured; a just-in-time crop, if you will.

->> On Mac OSX, apple-ctrl-shift-4 gives you crosshairs that you can use to select anything on the screen (it even makes the camera shutter snapshot sound). In Jaguar, I think it will save the image directly onto the desktop. In Panther, it copies it to the clipboard.

For your intended purpose, an even better option than a simple screen capture utility is the full-version of Adobe Acrobat. You need Adobe Acrobat to make PDFs, not just the free Adobe Reader.

With Acrobat, you can capture and archive all or part of a website inside of one PDF file, with nearly flawless formatting and working links.

Joe.
