Thank you Eddie Adams ...
Matt Hevezi, Photo Editor

->> Dear Eddie Adams,

Thanks for your leadership.
Thanks for setting the example.
Thanks for making "the picture" most important.
Thanks for sharing with "us."
Thanks for caring about "us."
Thanks for teaching “us” how to take care of each other.
Thanks for giving the Marine Corps combat correspondents a wonderful role model for all time.
Thanks the "honor and pride" you injected into the profession.
Thanks for making "us" want to be better and better at our craft
Thanks for showing us what it means to have "courage" and be “brave” with a camera.

But most of all, thank you for lighting a fire in my heart. I will never forget the day I met you -- the legend, the leader -- and the very powerful words of inspiration and encouragement you shared with me in Hartford.

Now that you are watching over us all from a higher position, I pledge to follow your lead. I will always care for and share the fire you once so graciously shared with “us.”

Thanks.

God bless, God speed, Semper Fidelis.

->> Those who had the opportunity to be a part of his Barnstorm workshops, and I know there are lots of them here on sportsshooter, owe a debt of gratitude for offering such a unique experience.

All we can do is to say "thank you" and take what we have learned and continue on in his memory.

Voltaire said that the pen is mightier than the sword. But Adams proved that in many cases the photograph is mightier.

God Bless and rest in peace.

->> I was at the workshop VI and he was wonderful. Years later he came to Wisconsin to speak and judge at our annual Wisconsin News Photographers Association. He was funny, witty, to the point and best of all just a regular guy. We all enjoyed his insight, his humorous comments and his candid opinions during the judging and his presentation. Dinner and drinks were even better. He even invited some of us to his home. His impact on so many individuals in this field is immeasurable. Peace...Dan.

->> Not all of us who practice this craft will leave the world an iconic image -- that's reserved for a few when circumstances, skill, talent and timing all converge -- but Eddie's death serves to remind us that he left us a second legacy with the Barnstorm Workshop -- he did what so few in our industry do, he gave back to his community - generously and freely.

While we're all taking the time to remember Eddie, let's remember to take this lesson to heart and put it into action in our own careers and lives. His life had an impact on me, on many of us -- we owe it to him to return the favor.
