Generic 1d Batteries

| ->> I was wondering if somebody could tell me how the generic 1d batteries hold up? I need to get a second battery and want to make sure the generics hold up just as long as the canon. Thanks. |

| ->> Just got mine, but will let you know. It refreshed and charged just fine and fits nicely in my 1D, so far I'm very pleased. Shooting a wedding with it today. |

| ->> Caleb, there are a couple of threads around addressing the new batteries. General consensis, you get what you pay for. They're not made as well as the canon batteries, they're missing part of the seal, and they don't fit as tight as the oem ones. Some are freaking out the chargers as well, and not charging. Haven't seen anyone claim it damaged their camera yet though. There's some concern that they may not have the thermal protection the canon batteries have as well. Personally, I'd wait for another 6 months or so and see if they have any nasty problems. Maybe the earlier complaints will dissapear once the company making them gets fully up to speed and experienced with manufacturing them. The 1D is just to expensive to risk if you're paying for it yourself. |

->> I tried mine out for the first time tonight after doing the refresh bit. I was able to refresh only after some finingling with the charger.
At a game I shot Friday night, the battery stayed inside the camera okay, but the screw attachment that turns and holds the battery in kept flipping down. Also, sometimes the camera would not focus and fire. I will try out the other battery on saturday and if I have similar problems with it, i plan on sending both back. |

->> I have two generics that will not charge (slow blink). One case is cracked. My Digital Discount has not responded to two (form) e-mails and one fax. I cannot get through to the company via telephone (busy all the time).
I am not happy, despite paying only $20 apiece. |

->> No problem with mine. The fit is a little off. But they last much longer than my canon batts. Granted the Canon batts are 1-1/2 yrs old and I didn't do the refresh thing before using them. So far they seem like a great deal for 25 bucks; however you can see from the above posts that they are a bit of a gamble. If you can't afford to lose $25, night want to wait a while to see how the story plays out.

->> I have one of the gnereics that works perfectly. The other one works in the camera, but the connection to the charger doesn't feel right, and I'm waiting to see if it refreshes/charges corectly.
If the one that seems alright does work, I still only paid $40 for a backup battery. The cheapest NP-E3 I've seen was still over $50 used.
If anybody does get a response from My Digital Discount about the batteries, please let the rest of us know what htey suggest. I'll send mine back if they are going to replace them, but if they say we're SOL, then I'm just going to let it go, and buy name brand next time. |

->> So - you excitedly open the package when it gets there, hook it up to the charger or pop it in a camera, not sure whether it really fits either or functions properly.
You ponder the situation, playing around with the connections - trying to decide whether anything is actually "wrong" with it to the point of having to return it.
You find the number, make a long distance call for an RMA#. Box it back up, drive to the post office, pay for return shipping and wonder how long it will be before you get it (or a replacement) back.
Prior to all this, you've spent time thinking about ordering one, reading the posts on here before ordering one, placed the order, paid the money, and then read more posts here afterwards - wondering when they'd finally be shipped.
So, how much has that "$20" battery actually cost you? :) |

| ->> I don't think we will be buying any more, we bought a few of them, and we had a problem with them holding a charge. And if the camera goes to sleep the camera wouldn't wake up, also the latch on a few of them won't engage properly on the camera. |

->> I am amazed that some people are already receiving replacements while I cannot get MyDigitalDiscount.com to simply respond after two faxes, two Web site form e-mails and two e-mails to the owner and sales department. All I asked for were two replacements or my money back.
Getting no response at all is not acceptable. |

| ->> Used the Generic battery from mydigitaldiscount.com and it lasted though a full football game with moderate motordrive usage / chimping. I took over 500 frames and only at the end did it go to half (last 10 frames). Only problem is the plastic latch on the outside doesnt stay down, but a little tape helps that.... |

| ->> Ill second that Scott....Have been using the generic batteries for a few weeks now, they last almost a full football game...500 images.....but the latching system is pretty poor....order some tape as well.. |

->> I have finally been able to use mine enough to provide an accurate assessment of the two I received.
1. Both charge fine in the Canon charger with no problems.
2. One of the batteries does not seat well and most of the time the camera shuts off, while the other battery fits fine.
3. I was able to shoot a full half of football with the good battery that seats properly. Unlike the Canon battery that will continue to fire when it shows half depleted, the generic one died a quick death and all camera functions ceased.
4. I plan to send the one back to be replaced.
If anyone knows of a fix to fix the seating problem, please pass along your advice. |

| ->> Same here, one of the batteries does not seat well, especially when you are shooting vertically. But after using some gaffers tape it prevent the camera from shutting off at random times. still keep an original battery close by. |

->> Can some of you saying how many frames you get please let us know how many you normally get with a Canon equivalent?
I can usually get 1000+ frames shooting soccer/hockey with my Canon batteries in my 1D. But I'm not using remotes or flash units. |
