This is a sequence of images captured just after seeing a couple of guys chase after a third while on my way to lunch down the street from my studio. Turn out that some dudes working in the area witnessed the shirtless bandit snatch a purse and take off down the road. I witnessed the capture and documented the time that the citizens held the offender while waiting for police to arrive. I began shooting after calling the police, and making certain that the 2 men had the offender under control. When the victim arrived and several others stopped, the situation escalated.
These images ran as a photo essay on the Chicago Tribune website. Viewer/reader comments were pretty critical of my documenting the incident. The Chicago Police blog was loaded with obscenely negative comments as well.
