The children of the Chinandega dump work with their families collecting things of value from the truckloads of trash that come in each day. They collect mostly recyclables, which they can resell in order to buy rice so that they don't have to scavenge for food in the trash. |

I am a regular contract photographer at the Lawrence Journal-World in Lawrence, KS and a multimedia producer for the University Daily Kansan at the University of Kansas. I am a senior at KU, and I will graduate May 2010 with a B.S. in journalism and a B.A. in French, with an additional concentration in African Studies. Languages spoken are English, French and Amharic. I lived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 2003 to 2005 and plan to move back to Ethiopia where I have residency to work as a documentary photographer covering the region.
