Image © 2008, peter hoffman || Terry Cunningham of Pioneer Forest looks over the land that the Current River runs through in Shannon County, MO. Pioneer Forest is the larges privately owned forest in MO and is managed in a sustainable fashion. Much of the woods show in the photo have had loggers come through and cut down many trees within the past five years, yet it has been done in a way that mimics the natural cycle of the forest and promotes new growth.

Peter Hoffman's Message: Here are some recent photos from my summer fellowship with the National Network of Forest Practitioners. I am working on a commissioned photo project entitled "People and Land" with fellow Ohio University grad student Jim Korpi.

The project focuses on sustainable forestry (also some organic farming etc.) and people's connection to the land. I just got back from the last leg of shooting in Mississippi and am home editing etc. until school starts back up.

As far as the photography goes, I have found this project difficult to illustrate and find variety in, but I have been fortunate enough to meet and learn from some amazing people and fee very fortunate andl fulfilled at the end of the day, even if the photos could be better.

Check www.peopleandland.blogspot.com fore more. Feedback welcome!

Thanks.

I'm a graduate student at Ohio University's School of Visual Communications. Open to freelance anywhere. Based near Chicago and out of Athens, Ohio. Have car, cameras. Will travel.

I'm also especially interested in the topics of sustainable living (both environmentally and economically) and the concept of micro-lending and issues on the periphery of these topics.

The images displayed do not represent a portfolio, but rather a collection of recent work. Please feel free to contact me for a portfolio or if you have any thoughts. I'm always trying to learn and open to any feedback. Thanks for looking.
