Gene Boyars's Message: I had the opportunity to cover some high school football in Las Vegas for Newsweek. It was the Pahranagat Valley Panthers against the Spring Mountain Youth Ranch Division IV Nevada football championship game. The story was not so much about the game, won by the Panthers for the 81st straight win, but about the totally different worlds the players come from. Pahranagat Valley is a mostly farming area in central Nevada and Spring Mountain is a facility for kids who have been adjudged delinquents by the Clark County justice system. It was a real pleasure to work with Shaminder Dulai, a Newsweek photo editor on this story that took a lot of twists and turns as we dealt with high school football at night, privacy issues of the Spring Mountain kids and the excitement of a championship game.

Gene Boyars put the wraps on a 30 year newspaper career at the end of 1999 and made the move to full time freelance work. Gene has continued his long relationship shooting NFL and MLB for Photo File, Inc, the leader in licensed sports photography as well as handling Columbia University and Long Island University.

Gene is availible for freelance assignments. He is fully digital and able to transmit from almost anywhere there is an internet connection.
