Todd Spoth's Message: "NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE"

Phew. What a month! October started out with an amazing and awe-inspiring trip to New York and the Eddie Adams Workshop and was quickly followed by a call from one of my funnest clients, a hip-hop dance studio here in Houston. Shawn, the owner and I have been on several trips together, but this one was definitely the best.

The studio, Planet Funk Academy was chosen to represent the US during a big event in Qatar in the Middle East. The team that was chosen was mostly younger kids, which made things pretty interesting. We usually travel with the pro team who are usually in their late teens to mid-20's so it was very exciting to accompany a curious group of kids, most of which had not been out of the country before.

After a 17 hour flight we arrived and although the entire trip lasted nearly a week, it seemed so quick. There was a lot of waiting, a lot of last minute rehearsals, a lot of time spent in a bus to and from various locations, but on our last day the Amir (head guy) of Qatar paid for our whole entourage to visit the desert. After several days of grueling practices and performances, we all had a great time on the incredible sand dunes of the Qatari desert and in the warm waters of the Persian Sea.

The whole journey was amazing and I was so happy with everything, except for my experience at the airport in Doha where security threw away all my tape and batteries!
