| Jonathan Roberts's Message: |
I had the opportunity to photograph our city’s updated version of the Nutcracker. It was a wonderful performance.
Jonathan spends his days in the classroom, but behind a camera. As the photojournalist for the Jefferson County Public Schools, he's charged with showing the rest of the world what happens day to day in a diverse and ever-changing learning environment.
He majored in government in college and, surprisingly, he's never had a photography course, but says "taking pictures is like breathing...it comes naturally."
After college, Jonathan spent several years as a photojournalist for Elizabethtown's daily newspaper, The News-Enterprise. He was a commercial photographer in Louisville before joining Jefferson County Public Schools in 1996.
Jonathan has earned numerous photography awards from the Kentucky Press Association, Landmarks of Excellence, National Press Photographers Association, and the Oasis Awards. He also has received the Gold Pinnacle Award from the International Festivals and Events Association for his work as official photographer for the Kentucky Derby Festival, which is where you'll find him each spring.
